When we started looking for a warm and unique destination for our wedding, Santa Fe quickly captured our hearts. The city’s vibrant Mexican influence beautifully reflects Erika’s heritage, while its charm as a ski town ties in with Jimmy’s love for winter sports. It’s a place that blends both of our backgrounds and styles—making it the perfect setting to celebrate with all of you!
Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF): Located about 10 miles from downtown Santa Fe, this is the closest airport. It offers limited flights, so check for availability and schedules. Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ): About 60 miles from Santa Fe, this is the major airport serving the region. It offers a wide range of domestic flights and car rental options. The drive to Santa Fe takes approximately 1 hour. For an alternative travel option between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, consider taking the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. The Rail Runner offers daily commuter service between the two cities, with a journey time of around 1 hour. It’s a comfortable, scenic ride—perfect if you want to avoid traffic and enjoy the New Mexico landscape along the way. We recommend flying into ABQ for the most convenient travel experience. If you have any questions about transportation, please feel free to reach out to us!
Summer days tend to hover in the 80s and cool down comfortably at night. Thanks to the dry heat, it’s a lovely time to visit—but August also marks the tail end of the local “monsoon season” so a passing rain shower is possible. We recommend packing a few layers and some light rain gear just in case!
Altitude sickness can be a concern in Santa Fe as the city sits at an elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level. To help prevent altitude sickness, be sure to drink plenty of water and take it easy when you first arrive. Staying hydrated is key! Some people also find that taking Advil or a similar pain reliever can help ease mild symptoms like headaches or fatigue.
While renting a car is a great option—especially if you plan to explore beyond the downtown area—it’s not necessary. Many of the city’s highlights are within walking distance from La Fonda. Rideshares like Uber are readily available and Santa Fe also offers a free shuttle service called the Santa Fe Pick Up that runs around the downtown area. If you're staying farther from the wedding venue, you can also utilize Santa Fe Valet for transportation. Please note reservations must be made in advance. https://santafevalet.com/reservations
The ceremony will take place at the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi and will be a traditional Catholic Mass. Mass will begin promptly at 1 pm and will wrap up at the latest at 2:15-2:30 pm. Afterwards there will be a break to freshen up, grab a drink and catch up with friends before cocktail hour starts!
Both! While the ceremony will take place inside the church, the reception will take place at La Terraza at La Fonda which features both an indoor and outdoor area for guests to enjoy. Dinner will be served indoors.
For the ceremony, please be mindful this is a church setting. Semi-formal attire preferred for both ceremony and reception. Cocktail dresses, mid-length dresses and suits are all appropriate.
