In July 2017, Caroline and I applied for a year-long mission program through Potter's Field Ministries. We both happened to meet at the airport in Guatemala at the very beginning of training, because our planes flew in at the same time! At this point, myself and three other guys from Oklahoma met the two gals from Pennsylvania, Caroline and Reagan. During training, the 29 interns of Ignite Class 13 grew closer to God as well as each other, and the time came for all of us to get our field assignments! Caroline and I were both chosen to be on team Uganda, along with 11 others. During this year, I began to have feelings for her (she had no idea!). However, I knew we were both committed to this program, which also meant not pursuing any romantic relationships. So I continued to pray for God to show me what His will was for us throughout our time overseas, but it wasn't always easy keeping it a secret. I remember one evening, I stepped outside and called my sister, Emily, and told her, "One day I am going to marry Caroline Nelson!" To fast forward about 6 months, the final day of the program was on June 30th, 2018. So it only makes sense that the very next day, July 1st (which is also her birthday), I flew from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania to surprise her and ask her to be my girlfriend. She was absolutely shocked, and if your curious to see it, we have a pretty funny video to prove it. At the end of that week, I flew home to Oklahoma and began our 1,238 mile apart relationship. We tried to fly back and forth to visit each other and our families often, but in October of 2018, I took the leap and moved to Pennsylvania, and only a few months later, on January 26th, I asked her if she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me. SHE SAID YES, and we are very excited to be getting married!
