Our story began in Austin, Texas, where Emma was living and Jacob was visiting for the 4th of July weekend. At the time, Jacob was in San Antonio briefly, waiting for his orders to Florida, when mutual friends Katie and Will Borin invited us to meet. Emma, having recently sworn off the male species, wasn’t exactly looking for romance—but, as life often does, it had other plans. We met at Clive Bar on Rainey Street, and from the moment Emma walked in, she couldn’t help but think, “Who is that? He’s cute.” Will introduced us, and we spent the entire weekend getting to know each other. By the end of those three days, Jacob knew without a doubt that this was the girl he was going to marry. He conveniently forgot to mention, though, that he’d be moving to Florida the following week. Two months of long texts and late-night FaceTime calls later, Jacob convinced Emma to visit him in Florida. When she arrived, he claims she was so nervous she barely spoke the first day. But by day two, Emma was comfortable enough to do what she does best—burp loudly and unapologetically. We spent the weekend canoeing around, exploring deserted islands, and falling more in love with the person we knew we’d spend the rest of our lives with. By the end of the trip, we both knew we had found something truly special, and though it was hard to say goodbye, it felt bittersweet. Fast forward two years and two months (and countless phone calls and plane rides). We found ourselves canoeing to an island in the Florida Keys, just like our first adventure together. Jacob insisted he wanted to step onto the island to check out the fish (Emma, of course, wasn’t suspicious at all). And in that perfect moment, on that beautiful island, Jacob proposed. And now, here we are—ready to begin the next chapter of our story.
