How My Parents Met

A tale from Schubert’s diary

January 12, 2019. The night that changed everything. Not for me, mind you—I was not born yet, probably still a sparkle in a tennis ball’s eye. But for my humans, it all began at this magical place they call “Addy House,” which I assume was like a giant dog park but with more beer and fewer chew toys. That is where my dad, Nick, returned from a mysterious place called “Abroad.” Sounds exotic. Probably filled with squirrels. When he walked in, people swarmed him like he was handing out bacon. One of those admirers? My mom, Jen. She immediately noticed his popularity and did some sniffing around (metaphorically, of course—as I am the professional sniffer in the family) to see if anyone could introduce them. No luck. Her pack was useless. So, they all trotted off to some legendary watering hole called Sluggers in Wrigleyville. There, with a little help from her trusty sidekick “Dren” (Drunk Jen, apparently her party alter ego), Mom decided to stop chasing her tail and made her move. She demanded that Dad take her number. Bold. Dren does not mess around. Later that night, fate (and probably an Uber) brought them back together at Addy House. Sparks flew, hearts fluttered, and history was made. Fast forward: they dated, moved in together on this glorious land called Schubert Street (I have heard tales), and eventually made their way to Denver—aka my kingdom. In honor of their first home together, they named me after it. I am Schubert, chaser of the ball, protector of couches, and living, barking tribute to their love story. Now we all live together in Denver, where the squirrels are fast, the hikes are steep, and the love is strong. Thanks for being part of our pack—we are so happy to share our home and lives with you! See you 7/5/26! Woof Woof!
