Mark & Molly's Love Story

Love is a Battle(ship)

Mark and Molly met during orientation week at Marquette University at Live Battleship - an activity where teams launch canoes into the campus pool and try to "sink" each other's canoes by filling them with water. They were introduced by a mutual friend, Dr. Chris Kollath. Molly had met Chris a few weeks prior at Marquette Preview weekend and Mark was in Chris's orientation group. Molly's orientation group was super lame and no one wanted to go to Battleship, so Chris invited Molly to join his team. Everyone had an absolute blast and the three hung out the entire night. Both boys insisted on walking with Molly across campus back to her dorm room. Mark and Molly became fast friends because they were living in the dorms next to each other. That same week Mark, Molly & Chris went to Organization Fest together, where Mark convinced Molly to sign up for Women's Rugby. He later forced Molly to go to the first practice, even though she was convinced that it would not be for her. After the first practice she was hooked, and Mark spent the next several weeks teaching her about the game and practicing with her. At this point, both Mark and Molly were in long-term, long-distance relationships with someone else, so their relationship was platonic. They had a similar class schedule, so they would eat lunch together and either practice Molly’s scrum half pass or watch reruns of international rugby games together. As time went on Molly’s relationship ended, and Mark was there for her. Then, Mark’s relationship ended, and he went to Molly for support. Neither had thought about the other in a romantic way until Molly’s roommate said, “You guys are so similar, I could totally see you two dating.” After a year and a half friendship filled with laughter, rugby, and shenanigans, it was inevitable that the two got together. The two dated the rest of the way through school and then began to build a life together in Milwaukee, WI. Through lots of trials, the couple grew closer, and their relationship strengthened. Mark supported and encouraged Molly when she wanted to change her career and throughout her Master’s program. When she finally was offered a position in her new field after over a year of applications and interviews, Mark without question picked up and moved across the country with her to Dallas, TX. Less than 6 months later while the couple was visiting their home in Milwaukee, Mark asked Molly to marry him in front of the Milwaukee Art Museum, where they had one of their very first dates. The two could not be more excited to continue their love story and celebrate their marriage with all their friends in family in the city that they met, fell in love, and built the basis for their life together.
