It was the summer of 2019. Josh was almost a full year into his first grown-up job with the San Diego Padres. He was living in La Jolla with his three roommates - Chris, Chris, and Chris (rumor has it a few TV networks are still trying to contact Josh’s agent to turn this into a sitcom) - and spent most of his weekends at Moonshine in Pacific Beach with a group of his friends from the University of San Diego. “Life is good”, Josh thought. But Josh had no idea how much better life was about to get when a new Padres hiring class started, including a 5’2” firecracker named Sami. Josh was drawn to Sami instantly and came up with any excuse to interact with her at work. They became fast friends and bonded over their love of sports and beer, usually finding themselves at a nearby bar after work watching football on a Monday or Thursday night. The more time they spent together, the more Josh could feel himself falling for Sami. There was just one tiny little problem…Sami didn’t feel the same way. For almost two years (really a year and a half but Josh likes to round up for dramatic effect), Sami held firm in her claim that Josh was “just a friend”, despite several failed attempts to convince her otherwise. Finally, on a fateful night in February 2021, Sami invited Josh to meet up for dinner at Dirty Birds, one of their favorite beer and wings spots in San Diego. With some help from a pitcher of beer that she and Josh were sharing, Sami finally confessed her feelings and asked Josh to take her out on a proper date, to which Josh obliged without hesitation. “Life is great”, Josh thought. But Josh had no idea how much better life was about to get. Fast forward to November 2025. Josh and Sami have been going strong for almost five years, and have had so many incredible adventures together, including moving into an apartment in Little Italy, vacations to Hawaii, Chicago, and the Philippines, and countless date nights exploring new restaurants around San Diego. Josh knew finding a girl like Sami was once in a lifetime, and he had to act fast before she came to her senses. On a romantic weekend getaway in Temecula — the same spot where Josh and Sami shared their first weekend getaway as a couple almost five years ago — Josh asked his best friend to marry him. “Life is amazing”, Josh thought. But Josh had no idea how much better life was about to get. See you in November :)
