How we met and how Will proposed...How we met and how Will proposed...

Timing is everything!

We start off by the most important piece... how did we meet? Our mutual friend Jessica started all of it! Jessica is Kozet's work wife and Will's family friend. For many years, Jessica always told the both of us how she wanted us to meet each other. It was the height of COVID and we all were on lockdown. We both had a lot going on with our families at the time, and the timing just wasn't right. Eventually, Will texted Kozet on the week of her birthday while she was on her big 30th birthday bash in Hawaii with all her family and friends. He asked her out and she turned him down because she was on vacation, but he didn't know that. He thought she was joking and wasn't interested in him! But really she was! They ended up scheduling their first date as she came back to California. Their first date was at Shogun in La Verne. We were so nervous since we didn't know what to expect, and we both weren't avid daters. Shogun is a Benihana style hibachi restaurant, and the real comedic relief was when we both were choking on the smoke from the grill. We had a lot of fun memories about our first date. Our dinner was comfortable, and it felt right. We had a great time and stuffed ourselves. Our first date was now over 3 years ago, and we still continue our yearly tradition by eating at Shogun at every anniversary. Fast forward to July 2024, Kozet and Will booked a trip to Kauai. We went to Oahu the summer before and quickly realized that Hawaii is both of our happy places. We planned a trip to drive an hour up to the North Shore and had Will had made dinner reservations at the One Hotel in Hanalei Bay. This hotel and its views are INSANE! It truly was a beautiful part of a huge new chapter in our lives. We ended up getting dinner, then getting drinks, and then Will mentioned that watching the sunset here on the beach would be the best experience of our Kauai trip! As we were finishing our drinks before heading down to the beach, typical Hawaii weather, rain started POURING! But in a matter of 15 minutes, again in typical Hawaii fashion, the sky was absolutely clear and breathtaking! We rushed down to get to the beach. As we took the elevator going down to Hanalei beach, Will opened the door and Kozet yells, "OH MY GOSH BABE!" Will had no idea was going on, and Kozet pointed to the lit up Marquee sign that said "Marry Me." Will said "that's not for us, Sorry! It's going to be a long time until I propose to you." As Kozet was flustered, it was perfect timing for Will because it was comedic relief for him but couldn't tell her just yet. As we continue walking down to the beach into a more secluded area, Will picks a spot to watch the sunset. Kozet gets upset because he stood right in front of a beach goer who also was trying to enjoy the sunset at the same exact time. As Kozet was explaining to Will to move to another spot out to be respectful, Will gets down on one knee and Kozet sees this man quickly bring out a camera to capture the moment. The tears start flowing as we both enjoy this special moment. Kozet didn't expect it especially after walking past the first sign! After popping the question, Kozet was so flustered and surprised, Will had to ask her what her answer was after a few minutes had passed. Kozet excitedly said yes and now as we look back at the moment, it was so funny, so surreal, and so us! We loved how everything turned out and couldn't imagine it any other way. Thank you for being a part of our journey, a part of our lives, and hopefully a part in our special day! We are so excited to celebrate with our loves ones and hope you can join in on the festivities!
