Kossana and Mikhail’s story began in St. Kitts on Monday, October 14, 2024. Kossana, who was living in North Carolina at the time, had just celebrated her birthday with her best friends the weekend before. She continued the celebration with a trip to St. Kitts to visit her mum, Rachel, who has called the island home since 2016. Mikhail, born and raised in St. Kitts, had returned home years earlier after studying and traveling in Taiwan, and was working as a civil engineer for the government. On that Monday, Kossana arrived on the island and, not long after, Rachel insisted on taking her out to meet a few friends at the local bar, Champions (especially since a Monday lime at Champions was a weekly tradition). As fate would have it, Mikhail decided on a whim to stop by Champions after a long and stressful day at work. For a few hours, Kossana chatted with her mum’s friends while Mikhail sat on the opposite side of the bar, out of her view—though he had already noticed her from where he was sitting. Eventually, Mikhail walked over to say hello to Rachel and her friends Andrew and Caroline, whom he had known for years. By that point, Kossana had taken notice of him as well, and Rachel and Caroline introduced the two. From that moment on, the rest was history. They quickly fell into conversation, spending hours laughing and talking about everything—from Mikhail judging Kossana for drinking two Caribs, to Kossana judging his choice of an abnormally blue colored “Adios” (which he insisted she try), to his ability to speak Mandarin, to her work on breastfeeding interventions in Africa, to diplomatic relations. What began as a simple introduction soon revealed an effortless connection neither of them expected. Kossana was only on the island for five days, but they found an excuse to see each other every single day. After a week of exploring the island together, Kossana returned to North Carolina—but the connection didn’t slow down. They spent every day texting, talking on the phone, binging netflix shows together, and FaceTiming until Kossana returned to the island in December. Upon her return, it was as if no time has passed. They immediately resumed exploring the island together. On December 31, 2024, Mikhail asked Kossana to be his girlfriend. Throughout 2025, Kossana visited the island every few months as their relationship grew. For their one-year anniversary in October 2025, Mikhail traveled to North Carolina to meet Nala and Boogie, help Kossana move her belongings into storage, and together they traveled to DC, London, and Florida. Afterwards, Kossana officially relocated to St Kitts, and just over a year after becoming a couple, on January 18, 2026, Mikhail asked for Kossana’s hand in marriage on Nevis, St. Kitts’ sister island. Their wedding is scheduled for February 22, 2027, a date chosen to reflect their favorite numbers: 222 and 27, and will take place where their story first began, with sweeping views of Nevis, where they promised forever.
