Keflavik Airport and Flight Options

Keflavik airport is the only international airport in South Iceland. We recommend booking with either Delta Airlines or Iceland Air if booking from the United States. There are some discount airlines that have trouble with re-booking if you are delayed or your flight is canceled. Delta and Iceland Air both have a good reputation for rescheduling. For our friends booking from Europe, make sure the airline has several routes and flight options in case you have a scheduling issue. Let us know if you have questions.

Rental Car

Renting a Car

We suggest you rent a car from a familiar rental car company. There are several on property at the Keflavik airport. We also recommend that you purchase bumper to bumper insurance coverage directly from the rental company. We have experience with this and cannot recommend this enough. Iceland's roads are in excellent condition and Icelanders drive on the right side of the road. You typically do not need a 4X4 in summer months. If one of your destinations requires a 4X4 it will be clearly documented so planning ahead is the key!

Places to stay in South Iceland

There are some amazing AirBnB and hotels in South Iceland. We have found the reviews to be spot on. Here are some suggestions on places to stay in South Iceland. We will be staying in the south from Saturday until the brunch on Tuesday. * Reykjavik - From Reykjavik you will have easy access to the south coast as well as Golden Circle. There are several familiar hotel brands, boutique hotels, and AirBnB's available in the City. * Vik - Vik is centrally located on the south coast with easy access from Selfoss to Fjaðrárgljúfur. We stayed at Black Sand Beach Suites during our last trip and enjoyed the sheep farm to water views. * Selfoss - Selfoss is a moderately sized town with a lot of conveniences. There are a lot of AirBnB's in this area. Within a 2.5 hour radius from Selfoss is Reykjavik, The Golden Circle, Vik, the Lava Fields, and Fjaðrárgljúfur. We will likely be staying in Selfoss from Saturday until we leave for the brunch on Tuesday. * Golden Circle Area - this area has many beautiful cabins to rent. We stayed here during our last trip and enjoyed being nested near so many places to hike. Happy planning!

Hotel

Places to stay in Snaefellsness Peninsula

For places to stay near the wedding venues we have three possible recommendations. * Hotel Budir - This is the location of the wedding dinner and where you will park to attend the wedding at the church. The hotel gets excellent reviews. The area is somewhat remote but there are a lot of conveniences built into this property. * Hotel Snaefellsnes - This hotel is about 30 minutes away from the wedding venue. It also gets great reviews. Its location is somewhat remote so apart from the hotel and its cafe, there are not a lot of conveniences, but it is centrally located on the peninsula. * The town of Stykkisholmur - Considered one of the prettiest little towns in Iceland, Stykkisholmur has a lot of choices in where to stay and what to eat. Stykkisholmur is a fishing village about an hour from the wedding venue. We will likely be staying here on Tuesday night before the wedding and the Fletchers will be staying here until Friday. The distance from here to the wedding is about an hours drive. It is a 3 hour drive to Sanefellsness from the brunch at Fridheimar. Please, let us know if you discover other gems!
