We met for our first date at the Royal Caribbean Cafe in Binghamton July of 2019. At the time Martin lived in Ithaca and Korin lived in Binghamton which is an hour away so Martin being Ithaca changed the time we were supposed to meet because he wanted a fresh haircut, I still managed to keep him in suspense by being late. We had great food and even better conversation. He became friendly with the owner and they would talk and laugh about Martin about being a “Pomeroon Man.” We would end up having many dinners there over the course of our relationship. The food and drinks reminded Martin of home and Korin loved the food and family friendly atmosphere. We both enjoyed the Guyanese cusisine and it became our favorite place to have ginger beer and chat Martin was so smitten with me; I could feel his excitement it was mutual. I was enjoying my time and felt comfortable, we didn't want the night to end. It was like we had known each forever. He couldn't wait to snap a photo which I know now was for Marla to check me out on his behalf. We were having so much fun we closed down the restaurant and moved on to the next one. We ended the night at Caribbean Patty World, in Binghamton were we sat and continued to talk and I introduced him to a couple people in town.

We dated long distance for 2 years and did lots of video chatting during lockdown. Spending quality time during the unknown was nice and we got to know each other well. We used to meet up every now and then for a weekend get away trip or I would drive up to Ithaca and we would have dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant Ciao! When Martin came to town we would order in or go to my moms for family dinners and Martin got to know my family well. Martin continued to work as a painter in Ithaca while I got a new job and went back to school. After a while it was time to meet the twins and we had an intimate night in for our first visit but after a few more visits we embarked on a road-trip to Dutch Wonderland with my “Roomies” and their kids. It has slowly become a yearly tradition for all of us to take the kids on a trip in the Summer. After about 3 years We decided we didnt want to be long distance anymore and we were ready for the next steps. We shopped for rings for a few months and had a plan for some that we liked locally. But while on vacation in St. Martin we fell in love with our current wedding set and made the switch. So now we had the rings but there was so much more to do! We had to let every one know it was official! We were getting Married!! We were heading out for dinner on my birthday last October and we were putting our coats on at the door, as I turned around I saw Martin down on one knee with a ring box asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I was so surprised and caught of guard but I was happy that he asked and I said YES! Martin felt it was important to ask at home and make it a special place where we can start and build our lives together.
