All about the party baby! We will have a second line parade through the streets accompanied by a live jazz band taking us to the reception venue. Receptions in New Orleans are all about the party, so there will be no assigned seating, the food will stay out all evening and a live band will keep the party rolling. The idea is to not get too comfortable in your seat... roam, mingle and dance the night away! laissez le bon temps rouler!
A brass band blares. A hand-decorated parasol twirls. A ragtag group behind the band waves handkerchiefs to the beat of the drum, while a grand marshal in a snazzy suit and jaunty hat leads the way – out-dancing, out buck-jumping them all as he waves his feathered fan. Lucky you. You’ve just stumbled across a New Orleans second line. There are two parts to a second line. The first line is made up of the grand marshal or parade leader, the band, and whoever is being honored. In a jazz funeral, the family and the hearse are part of the first line. In a wedding, the bride, groom and wedding party take a position up front. The strutting revelers who fall in behind are referred to as the second line. The leaders of the parade carry decorated umbrellas, while the other participants shake handkerchiefs while they dance. A brass band plays some beats that gets everyone dancing and moving. Basically get ready to get the party started the right way!!!
The Ceremony is a traditional Catholic wedding mass excluding communion, it will begin promptly at 5:30 pm so you should plan to arrive at lease 10 minutes early to find a seat a get comfortable!
The dress code is black tie optional, meaning tuxedos are optional for men with dark suits being acceptable. Women can select anything from cocktail to floor length dresses and gowns. There will be a second line parade from the church to the reception venue which is about 3 blocks, appropriate footwear is encouraged!
There is parking at the church and it is the same parking lot the reception venue uses. There is also paid street parking throughout the neighborhood however we are encouraging guests not to drive and use Uber, Lyft or public transportation.
