Kolby and I first saw each other back in 2017 when I was working the front desk at a doctor’s office in Lufkin, which is his hometown. He came in one day and I thought he was cute, so after he left I found his chart, looked up his name on social media and there he was. (HIPAA? Don’t know her.) Unfortunately at the time, he was dating someone else so I figured that was the end of it. A few months later, I moved to Austin for work but shortly after my move, I decided to make a weekend trip back to Lufkin to see some old friends. I had posted a picture on Instagram and added my location to show I was visiting Lufkin. The next morning, I had a friend and message request from Kolby. I immediately remembered who he was and was thrilled! After exchanging a few messages, he asked for my number. We talked everyday from sun-up to sun-down and before I knew it, we were making plans for him to come see me in Austin and take me on a date. When he visited, it happened to also be Easter weekend. I had no plans to see my family and he asked if I would want to go back to Lufkin to spend Easter with him and his family. Some might argue it was way too soon, but it didn't scare me a bit. I said yes and off to Lufkin we went. Fast forward to December 23rd, 2019 at Kolby’s family Christmas party. Kolby and I had agreed that we would do our presents for each other on Christmas Day. After everyone had opened their presents, he handed me a gift box. Surprised, I told him I thought we had agreed to wait to exchange gifts. Little did I know that inside the box was an ornament that said “Will you marry me?”, surrounded by little twinkly lights. When I looked up, he got down on one knee and popped the question. If you know us, you know we get way too excited over presents we buy for each other and usually end up spoiling it, so the fact he kept this concealed for so long is huge! It has been nothing short of an adventure thus far and we are so excited for this next chapter.
