All About Us

A Summary of our Crazy Lives!

We are a couple crazy in love! Both of us are pilots (hence the aviation-themed wedding), and we love to fly! Kolby currently works as a First Officer flying for SkyWest Airlines out of Salt Lake City, UT, and Ashley currently works as an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor for Utah State University in Price, UT. Besides flying, we love to go hunting, camping, golfing, reading a good book, or just spending quality time together watching Disney movies (don't judge, we are both still kids at heart!). We have three wonderful fur-babies: Savannah (a tortoiseshell cat), Aspen (a white Pomsky) and Apollo (a German Shepherd). We currently live in Price, UT and are enjoying the challenges of being first-time homeowners.

How We Met

Two People Stumbling into Love!

We met in our senior year of college at Utah State University in Logan, UT. Both of us were pursuing a degree in aviation, and though we shared several classes together, we didn't really know one another existed! That all changed when we both volunteered to help out with an aviation summer camp. We were part of the group leaders and had to work together to watch over the camp participants. One of the nights, we had to supervise the campers as they enjoyed an evening in the pool, and that's where we hit it off. We started talking and soon realized that we shared a lot of similar interests besides flying. Next thing you know, our simple friendship quickly blossomed into the passionate love we share today!

Our First Date

An Awkward Rollercoaster!

Our first date was a little awkward to say the least! We were both shy and hadn't dated in a while, so we struggled to act natural. The date started out by Kolby taking me on a surprise road trip to Ogden, UT. We got off at the Ogden Airport, and I asked him if we were going skydiving as a joke. He smiled at me and my heart stopped. There was no way I was going to be jumping out of an airplane that day! I started to freak out and panic, but Kolby quickly calmed me down, said he was only joking, and that he was taking me to a restaurant at the airport. He wouldn't stop laughing at my shocked expression, and I glared at him for a long while. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed, so we decided on a nice burger shack in town. After lunch, Kolby finally revealed the main attraction of the date: a trip to the Hill Air Force Base aviation museum. He knew how much I loved airplanes, so he knew there was no better place to take me. Kolby next surprised me with a stop to play miniature golf. I had never golfed before, but he was patient and taught me how to hold the club properly and control my swing. In the end, I turned into a fine mini-golfer! (not really). Dinner was at a wonderful teppanyaki restaurant, and that's where he held my hand for the first time. On the way home, we did not want the day to end. We had enjoyed each other's company so much that we had a hard time saying goodnight. So what did Kolby do? He asked if I wanted to go stargazing. That was the cherry on top to a wonderful date. We drove up Logan Canyon, away from the city lights, and watched the night sky as we cuddled up to each other. Our attraction was easy and comforting, and we knew that this was going to be more than just a simple crush.

How He Proposed

A Grand Proposal in the Grand Canyon!

Like our first date, Kolby was full of surprises with his proposal. We were living in Mesa, AZ at the time, and Kolby surprised me after work with a nice dinner at a new Chinese restaurant. During dinner, he revealed to me that his parents had "won a trip" to the Grand Canyon, but since they couldn't go, we were taking their place (in reality, this was the excuse Kolby made up to keep the proposal a secret. I was gullible enough to believe him). We were leaving that night right after dinner. He told me my bags were already packed and everything, including my work schedule, was taken care of. Me, still not one for surprises, freaked out. Despite how much I argued, Kolby would not budge on this trip. So we got in the car and started the long drive to Kingman, AZ to stay the night at a cool Route 66-themed hotel. The next morning, we drove up to the Grand Canyon. I had never been there, so I was excited to see it. But Kolby said that we had to wait for something first. I was confused, but quickly found out that his parents' "trip" involved a helicopter ride down into the Grand Canyon. No way!!! I was so excited to get to fly in a helicopter, and down into the Grand Canyon to boot. To say I was as excited as a kid on Christmas is an understatement! When it was finally our time to go, I could hardly wait. We boarded the helicopter with a few other passengers, and then began our journey into the canyon. Kolby and I were lucky enough to sit in the front seats with the pilot, so we had a beautiful view all the way down. At the bottom, the pilot landed the helicopter on a small outcropping of rock, and we were able to get out for a bit. This is where Kolby revealed his final surprise. Speaking quickly to the pilot and handing him his phone, Kolby got down on one knee. Through happy tears and giggles, Kolby finally managed to ask if I would marry him.
