Candice Jicha

Matron of Honor

Candice once tried to smother Catherine under a beanbag as a child. But for the most part, Catherine was always the cute baby sister in Candice's life. The Mitchell girls all grew up to like each other quite well though. Candice is the firstborn of the crew, followed by Carmen the second born, and then their favorite sister Catherine coming in as the last born. Candice and Catherine attended the same university--The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill--and they love their Tar Heels. Though Catherine may have been a bit more obsessed over the years. They also share a love for sarcasm, cake frosting, and funny Christmas songs. Candice has always been the big sister with just the right thing to say to support Catherine in whatever is going on in her life...and always ready to take someone out if they mess with her. Candice will be traveling across the world to come stand by Catherine's side on her big day...just in case she needs to take someone out ;)

Carmen Docter

Virtual Matron of Honor

Carmen also played a role in the beanbag saga (see post about Candice). She also shared a room with Catherine for many years with some pretty awesome bunk beds. There may have been several occasions over long school holidays where Carmen would lock Catherine out of the house while their parents were not at home. Truly Carmen was one person that helped build Catherine's character. But they weren't always fighting. Carmen led the way as a softball star in the family and Catherine followed in her footsteps with a love for the game. As time went by, these two sisters became much closer than they ever thought they would in their younger days. Even though they live on different continents, they continue to be the first phone call for each other when they need some advice. Carmen will be standing by Catherine's side virtually on the big day while she holds her brand new baby BOY back in the U.S.

Faith Muiruri

Bridesmaid

Faith, or "Fi" as Catherine calls her, is the last born in our "Tigoni fam." She was once a student at Uhuru Girls where Catherine first got to know her a year before moving to Kenya. It was on a visit to the home of Faith's grandparents that Catherine and Faith first bonded and the Lord began to stir in Catherine to move to Kenya to be a more permanent part of Faith's life and the lives of other girls like her. Catherine and Faith got to share one term together at Uhuru Girls before Faith graduated, but soon after graduating Faith (and Shii) moved to Catherine's place and the Tigoni Fam was formed. Faith and Catherine are so much alike it is scary sometimes. Type 3 teammates forever. The two can often be found discussing some deep Biblical truths, cooking together, or laughing at a video posted by one of their favorites--Jackie Hill Perry or Beth Moore. Faith also has become the biggest Kenyan Tar Heel fan. #tarheelbred

Mariet Wanjiku (Shii)

Mariet, or "Shii" as we call her, is the craziest person Catherine knows and she never lacks something to say...until she decides. But she also brings sanity to Catherine's life. Shii is the first born in the Tigoni fam and keeps people in line. Catherine first came to know Mariet during a visit to Kenya during which she went to visit her grandmother's (Shosh) place. A couple years later Catherine was returning to Kenya, but to live this time, and upon arriving at the school Mariet saw her and wondered who is this Mexican girl. Little did they know just how much they'd be a part of each other's lives. Shii moved in with Catherine for a few years on and off but today is a big timer at a salon in the city...but she still finds her way back to the Tigoni home when chicken or sweet sugar is mentioned.

Joan Kung'u

Bridesmaid

Joan and Catherine share an office and a love for discipleship. Joan, or "Kunguzy" as Catherine calls her, is the middle child in the Tigoni fam. She was also a student at Uhuru Girls for one term when Catherine first moved to Kenya and then she graduated. For that one term though, Joan would come to Catherine's office every Sunday night and Catherine would ask Joan to teach her something that the Lord had been teaching her. Little did they know that just a few months later the Lord would bring Joan to the office as a discipleship team member and the rest is history. Now, you can find the two of them at Nifty Cafe every Thursday morning where Catherine still gets to hear about what God has been teaching Joan recently. They also have a lot of inside jokes and phrases that no one gets but them.

Brenda Wanjira

Bridesmaid

Brenda has been given many names by Catherine, but Piggy is what you're most likely to hear. This name has a long history that comes from Brenda's complete dislike for anyone touching her toes, or her "piggys." Piggy is yet another one that Catherine knew as a student before she became a part of the Tigoni Fam. Before she was Pigs, she was a student at Uhuru Girls for one year and one term while Catherine was there. They spent much time talking and praying together in those days and it led to a bond that extended beyond the compound of Uhuru Girls. You can often find Catherine and Piggy physically fighting when they are together...don't worry, no one gets hurt. Usually.

Lydiah Njoki

What a gift Lydiah is in Catherine's life. From the moment they started doing life together, God has used this friendship to bring so much encouragement, wisdom, and joy. Everyone knows that if Catherine says she's going to spend time with Lydiah then her day is fully booked, as they will talk and laugh for hours. Lydiah was once a colleague who left big shoes to fill at Uhuru Girls and now she is the greatest friend who always has Catherine's back. (Her other half is also pretty awesome.) She has been the biggest fan of Catherine and Will from the beginning, so it's only right that she has a VIP spot on the big day. And from the moment we say "I do", Auntie Lydiah will be awaiting the call that Baby Kojwang is on the way.

Jacque Kojwang

Bridesmaid

Jacque is a sister to Will, one of the three. She will be representing the Kojwang Crew as part of the bride's team. Jacque and Catherine became friends during the many markets that Will dragged Jacque to throughout 2021. Probably so he could leave early to go see Catherine. But maybe what wasn't part of his plan was the friendship that Jacque and Catherine would form where Jacque could share all the funny stories about her brother. Jacque always has the best stories and knows all the insider info. Besides sharing stories and teaming up on Will, Jacque and Catherine also share a love for good shows like New Amsterdam.
