Michael and Kody met at their mutual friend Devin’s surprise birthday party at Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City in December 2021. After a little flirting, they parted ways. In November 2022, Kody decided to join a friendship ski trip with Devin to Copper Mountain, Colorado. In a group chat, Kody volunteered to drive anyone else who was flying out to Denver airport up into the mountains. One individual, who Kody only knew as "Corporate Lawyer Guy", said he would catch a ride. Kody then texted Devin on the side to ensure this random guy wasn’t an axe murderer. Devin couldn’t confirm that he wasn’t a murderer, but did inform her that Mike was a genuinely good guy.

While Mike may try to deny it, his mama will tell the truth! A day after meeting Kody, Mike told his mama that he met a beautiful and fun girl that he was interested in.

Kody was instantly struck by Mike’s blue eyes and handsome smile. His witty comments made her laugh and smile. However, she was quite perplexed why he kept calling her wrestling girl. Turns out Mike had her confused with her trainer’s wife. The nickname still sticks around though.

Kody and I went on an amazing adventure that took us from Germany to Switzerland to Italy. In Lucerne, we dined at an outdoor fondue restaurant. Kody was so pretty and every time I looked at her, I couldn't help but smile. I knew at that moment that she was the one for me. A couple days later, during a particular strong bout of the "laugh-cries" and as I was dragging her through the streets of Rome, I started to reconsider that! However, I had already made up my mind. After months of careful planning, Mike realized he was quickly running out of time, but was more than prepared to surprise Kody. While preparing to celebrate Oktoberfest, Mike suggested they get some pictures in their German attire (full lederhosen and dirndl). While Kody was posing for her solo pictures, Mike went down on one knee. Kody didn't realize what was happening right away, but after rolling her eyes and responding with a choice remark, it dawned on her. Believe it or not, she said yes!
