Once upon a time, two kids sat across the room from each other in AP Lang their junior year of high school. While nothing monumental happened during the school year, besides the occasional group work, everything changed when Leah received a message on instagram from Kobi asking to hang out over the summer. He claims he had no romantic intentions at the time and just thought Leah would be a good fit into their friend group. He sent along his phone number and Leah was excited to see where it would go. She sent a text and waited for a response, one day passed, then two, and on the third day of no response, Leah went back to the DM and asked Kobi what was up (because surely a guy wouldn’t reach out out of the blue and immediately ghost her, right?). Turns out he typed his number wrong, Kobi was so apologetic and the two immediately began texting every day. That went on for a few weeks before all of a sudden Leah was left on read. At this point she thought “ok I got the hint” and accepted that she got ghosted (disclaimer: this was a late at night text conversation so turns out Kobi just fell asleep and didn’t realize he left Leah on read and instead thought Leah left him on read). The two didn’t talk for a few weeks, both thinking the other wasn’t interested in the other. Remember when Snapchat streaks were like the most important thing in a teenagers life? Well Kobi and Leah had a few mutual friends and during streaks one day Leah got a Snapchat from Kobi who was taking over streaks for a friend for the weekend. They talked about how they each thought the other left them on read and decided to forgive and forget. And that’s where this story really starts. The first time they ever hung out (not as a date, just as friends) was to study for the ACT at Legacy Park (and if you didn’t know, 7 years later they are getting married at a venue named The Legacy, truly a full circle moment). They got through one, maybe two, practice questions before conversation overtook them and they talked nonstop until the sunset and they had to go home. One of their next meetings was on the ACT test day, where they stood in line together and talked the whole time, then ended up in the same testing room, and then decided to go to lunch together afterwards where they talked for 5 additional hours ( that ACT was Kobis best score, and Leah’s worst). They hung out more and their hangouts turned into dates, and dates turned into dating on July 31st 2018. They went through their senior year of high school together, sharing another class AP Studio Art. They went to homecoming and prom together and supported each other through all of senior years monumental moments. Fast forward to college where they went long distance for all 4 years, Kobi studying painting at the Kansas City Art Institute and Leah studying animation at Webster University. Kobi made the drive to St. Louis more than Leah ever made the drive to Kansas City but they made it work. Graduation day finally came (unfortunately on the same day so they had to celebrate each other from afar) and the end of long distance was finally in sight. In June of 2023 Kobi and Leah moved to Kansas City together and have been loving it ever since. Both furthering their artistic careers and loving life together. Kobi took Leah by complete surprise by proposing on a rooftop in the plaza before dinner on February 28, 2025, and now they can’t wait to celebrate their wedding with you!
