Kevin had been planning a proposal for a few weeks, but the timing and the place never felt just right...until it did. We made our first winter getaway together to Marquette, Michigan with our dog, Genevieve. Kevin had intended to propose on top of Sugarloaf Mountain; however, Mother Nature had different plans. After spending 3 blustery days in Marquette, we made the 5-hour drive home to Milwaukee. Rather than going straight home though, we detoured to a Christmas tree farm. This was our third year picking a tree together, and the second year in a row at the same location, because Genevieve is allowed to join us! We arrive at the tree farm, but we have to don our winter gear first. Kevin takes an awfully long time to get ready (aka hide the ring box), but I'm not realizing it in the moment (hindsight is 20/20). We have about an hour to pick a tree out before the sun sets too low to be out. The 3 of us enjoy strolling through the different species before deciding upon which tree would be ours. I told Kevin I wanted "soft needles," so he was sweet enough to brush his fingers through the trees as we walked to let me know which ones were soft. (He needed an excuse to leave his gloves in his pockets to hide the box...) After we circled back to the same tree multiple times, we both agreed "it's a good one." Kevin crawls onto the ground and begins sawing while I keep watch and take pictures. Little do I know that he isn't sawing, but he is actually getting the ring out. He says something along the lines of “Hey, I’m stuck. Can you come help?” I do a little huff and puff as I have to put my phone away and stop taking pictures. I walk over to help Kevin from under the tree and he turns around on one knee. A whole speech ensued and all I remember was saying "of course" with tears in my eyes. I then had to take my gloves off so he could slide the ring onto my finger where it has lived ever since!
