Nicholas surprised Allie and re-created their first date (which took place on June 27th, 2022). They had a staycation planned at Hotel Fort Des Moines that weekend to plan out their goals for the upcoming quarter. (Little did Allie know - they would be planning something huge for the upcoming quarter... a wedding within 5 weeks!) They stayed at Hotel Fort Des Moines Friday night, had their planning meeting on Saturday, and then Nicholas told Allie he had their Saturday night plans taken care of and that they were top secret. The first stop was dinner at a restaurant called "The Chicken" in West Des Moines. After dinner, Nicholas took them on a long drive to Roseman Bridge (one of the covered bridges in Madison County). When they first started driving that direction, Allie suspected they may be going back to that bridge they had stumbled upon during their long random drive after dinner on their first date, but it was much further than she had remembered so she ended up thinking they had passed it and had no idea where they were going. Nicholas was being verrrry suspicious on the drive and Allie joked that she was going to share her phone location with her mom just to be safe. They eventually arrived at the bridge (which Nicholas had anticipated being deserted as it's on a random gravel road) and found another car parked right by the bridge with two people sitting inside. Nicholas internally questioned what to do and decided to continue with his plan of getting out and taking a walk along the bridge like they had done on their first date. Once they had walked through the bridge and were on the other side admiring the view and the beautiful weather, Nicholas casually stepped behind Allie, pulled out the ring, and got down on one knee without Allie noticing. He reached up and turned her around and asked her if she would marry him. After a moment of surprise (which Nicholas felt lasted forever), she very happily said YES.
