We met teaching gymnastics at The Little Gym of Merrick. Kasey had already been working there for a bit when Matt came back to work there. They became great friends right away, quoting "Stick It" to each other, going out for ice cream, mac n' cheese and deep fried PB & J. Kasey would bust Matt's chops about how he wasn't a gymnast and didn't actually know skills to teach the kids, and then Matt would surprise her by doing a back tuck on the inflatable Air Track or by doing a back-handspring in the parking lot of Boss Crokers after a couple of drinks. They had a lot in common and were enjoying their friendship, but little did Kasey know, that Matt had told their co-worker from the very beginning to not let him date her because he was going to marry her. Apparently he knew and it love at first sight... must have been the yoga pants she wore to work...
Fast forward 2 1/2 years later, Matt really impressed her. He remembered things Kasey wanted to do that she told him about years ago, like going to Sleep No More in the city, or buying her the books one of her favorite TV shows was based on. They even went and got tattoos together on Friday the 13th, (which they were supposed to get 2 and after Kasey did, Matt only got one because the first one "hurt too much"). She finally agreed to be his girlfriend and it was off from there. They got more tattoos together, traveled thousands of miles together, got drunk at zoos, went on a treasure hunt in Disney in the pouring rain, even went out of the country for Matt's first time ever to Cancun for a week. While they were dating Kasey brought Matt to Schiavetta trail in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, put him on a quad and showed him "The Big Hill", her favorite place to go and escape for a little bit. No cell service, no roads or buildings, just nature. They sat up there in the quiet listening to birds and looking at the mountains and Matt said it was his new favorite place. For Valentine's day Kasey got them both matching bracelets with the exact coordinates of "The Big Hill" on them. They eventually decided to move in together. During the apartment hunt Matt would tell the potential Landlords that they were engaged, and Kasey called him out on it that he needs to stop lying to them just incase they do get the apartment and the landlords started asking questions about the wedding and when it would be etc. etc. On August 31st 2017, they started their move into their apartment in Lindenhurst together...
The day after they moved in, they went up to Honesdale, Pennsylvania with Kasey's family. That weekend was going to be the last time they were able to go up to "The Big Hill" because her brother-in law, DJ, his family was selling off the land. They knew this so Kasey made it a point to make sure they brought their bracelets because she wanted to take pictures with them in their special spot. It rained the entire first day they were there and it didn't seem like it was going to stop for the last day they were there which was really upsetting for her. That night while it poured, they played games and drank and Matt kept making comments about how he didn't want to take pictures and that it was stupid and continued to piss off and annoy Kasey. The next day Kasey kept watching the radar to see if there would be a break in the rain for them to go take some pictures. When there finally was, they got ready to go, dressed in clothes they knew they'd probably ruin, packed a few beers in a cooler and faced the mud. They had "commissioned" DJ to take the pictures for them, so Matt hopped on the quad with him while Kasey went up with her sister, Danielle. They stood on the quad in the mist and drizzle and took a bunch of silly pictures. Danielle was the one behind the camera while DJ held the umbrella, so when she started jumping, Kasey looked at her thinking there was a snake or something in the tall grass they were in. When Kasey looked back to her right, she said, "Are you fu**ing kidding me?!" because Matt was down on one knee with a ring and said, "This was already our favorite place in the world, I just wanted to make it even more special. Will you marry me?" She obviously said yes, they toasted with 24oz cans of Shock Top and took real engagement pictures. Turns out Matt had planned out the entire thing, from getting everyone together to go up that weekend, to asking Kasey's dad for permission, to creating a custom engagement ring for her. It was a perfect day!
