Electronic Travel Authorisation

Beginning January of 2025, US citizens will need to apply and receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). You can apply at the website provided. An ETA gives you permission to travel to the UK. It costs £10 to apply. Everyone travelling needs to get an ETA, including babies and children. You can apply for other people. You will usually get a decision within 3 working days, but you may get a quicker decision. Occasionally, it may take longer than 3 working days. You cannot get a refund after you apply. You will get an email confirming you have got an ETA after submitting your application. It will be linked to the passport you applied with. Your ETA lasts for 2 years. You can travel to the UK as many times as you want during that time.

Flight

Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI)

Flying into Edinburgh (EDI) is the closest airport to the wedding venue. You can easily take a tram from the airport to the city center. You can purchase tickets for the tram at the airport ticket kiosks when you arrive, or ahead of time online. We recommend getting a round trip ticket if you plan on using the tram. It costs about 9 pounds round trip. Please see the train section for details on the tram system. Uber and taxi's are also available.

Edinburgh Tram Services

Where does the tram go? Services are scheduled to run between the airport and Newhaven. An end-to-end journey between the airport and Newhaven takes 54-minutes, while journeys between the airport and the city centre take 30-minutes. Airport return tickets are completely open-ended, so whether you need to use it next week or next year – it’s valid! Airport multi-day tickets are valid for an airport return trip and unlimited tram travel within the city zone for 3, 4 or 5 consecutive days. Tickets are available for adults, children, and families. Remember to buy tickets before boarding the tram. You can also buy them from ticket vending machines at any tram stop – including at the airport.
