How We Met

High School

I remember being in freshman year pool class, watching a male diver doing flips off the diving board into the pool and thinking, "Wow he's cute but totally showing off". A year later, I met Ryan through a mutual friend when we all became lifeguards at a community pool. I later found out he was the diver in the diving well in my freshman year pool class. The rest is history. -Ashley Ashley had a crush on me freshman year in pool class, and I never knew it. It wasn't until we formally met sophomore year through our mutual friend, Mike, when I really started hanging out with her more. Not going to lie, we didn't really like each other at first. It wasn't until we started working every day together at a community pool when Ashley and I became good friends. -Ryan

Proposal

Purdue University

I had no idea. Period. It was the best proposal I could have ever wanted. We planned to go to Purdue one last time before moving to Florida for PA school. I was dressed casually in jeans and a winter jacket. We got to Purdue, parked our car, and decided to take a walk down memory lane on campus. We were reminiscing on our college years when we stopped at the Engineering fountain. Next thing I knew, Ryan got down on one knee. Standing at the beautiful fountain, at a place we called our second home for 4 years, hugging my now fiancé, I could not put into words my happiness. After finishing our walk around campus, taking a few photos, and eating a delicious dinner, we went to our favorite bar on campus to play Euchre. Ryan surprised me by inviting some of our family members and a few of our closest friends to the bar to celebrate with us. It was perfect. -Ashley I had gone through a family friend who owned his own jewelry store. Based off of engagement rings we looked at over a year prior, he designed and made her ring from scratch. It was a really cool process watching it be made and I remember stopping in that shop weekly to see how it was built. In the meantime, I asked both of Ashley’s parents’ permission to marry her; that was really important to me. I knew I wanted to propose at Purdue, so I asked Ash to go to Euchre night at our favorite bar and see the campus one more time before we moved to Florida. We drove down around noon and went for a walk on campus. I was so nervous when we walked by the Engineering Fountain that my friends barely had time to come out from their hiding spots to take pictures before I got down on one knee. Ashley was speechless, and the moment was perfect. We grabbed some dinner then met our friends at the bar for Euchre. But then came the second part of my surprise. A bunch of our family and all our closest friends came down for the occasion to surprise Ashley. It’s definitely a day I’ll never forget. -Ryan

How we ended up in Florida

First comes PA school, then comes marriage

We both had a dream to become a Physician Assistant. Our goal was to get into the same PA school. We found out in October 2016 that Fort Myers accepted us both! I was off work that day, and I remember receiving the email and having to wait all day for Ryan to get off to tell him I got in. Little did I know, he was accepted too! I will forever be grateful for becoming a PA with my fiancé by my side, supporting each other every day during those 27 months. Now that we are officially PA-Cs, it's time to finally countdown to our next big adventure...our WEDDING!! -Ashley We applied to dozens of schools around the country in an attempt to get the same acceptance letter into PA school. We kept getting interviews at different schools until finally we both received an interview at NSU in Fort Myers on the same day. We went into the interview pretending that we didn’t know each other because we didn’t want to give our interviewers any bias whether or not to offer us admission (even though our resumes were literally identical). It’s funny because one of our closest friends today was in our same interview and she always tells us she had no idea we were together. We received our acceptance letters a couple weeks after that, and then we made the trip down in April! -Ryan
