It all started with a swipe! In December 2017, Michael and Whitney matched on JSwipe (an app for meeting young Jewish singles). Luckily for Michael, Whitney (with a little extra convincing from her roommate) wrote the first message and they immediately connected on their love of sports, food, and travel. Their December travels didn't allow for a first date until over a month later on January 10th, 2018.
A giant meatball and a margarita pizza followed by a game of darts at a neighboring bar because Whitney had to go pick up her lost credit card from the week before.
With busy schedules (including Michael’s grad school classes that went until 9pm), the only time they could get together the following week was at 10pm on a Tuesday. Clark Street is a favorite neighborhood bar where they enjoyed popcorn and beer!
Pop-a-shot (Whitney won)
During the early days of the pandemic, Whitney and Michael quarantined in Michael's 700 sq ft one bedroom apartment playing games, doing puzzles, and drinking wine. In May 2020, they officially moved to their new condo in Wicker Park. If they survived close quarters, moving during a pandemic, and both working from home for 2 years, they can get through anything together!
Whitney was surprised in the morning with flowers and instructions to be ready to leave for a suprise location later that evening. An unfortunate downpour moved what was supposed to be a private, romantic, outdoor fire pit, rooftop proposal inside where Michael instead popped the question in front of 50+ strangers who showered them with champagne and cheers when Whitney said YES! Dinner followed at Joe's Seafood where Michael arranged a private room for our family and closest friends to surprise Whitney and join the celebration. We're so excited to share this chapter in our lives with you. Can't wait to see you in Kansas City!
