Built on a historic, elevated rail line, the High Line is a car-free walkway with gardens, art, architecture and food options. It starts in Midtown West and goes down to the Meatpacking District. Some of our favorite things to check out along the way: - Hudson Yards, including Edge, Vessel, shopping & restaurants (see separate rec) - Chelsea Market (shopping, restaurants - we recommend Los Tacos) - Little Island - The Standard Biergarten - Whitney Museum of Art
Here you can visit: - The Edge (the outdoor sky deck suspended in mid-air so you can look 100 stories down from the glass floor -- must buy tickets online for $36) - The Vessel (pictured above, a climbable artwork installation -- must reserve tickets in advance but they are free) - Mercado Little Spain (Spanish market that has great tapas, we recommend the croquettes!)
Walk along the water for views of the Brooklyn Bridge or visit the South Street Seaport Museum which is home to a fleet of ships. For a bite to eat in this area, we love Industry Kitchen and Malibu Farm for something casual. If you're looking for something a bit fancier, we recommend The Fulton.
Two blocks of bars and restaurants on a cobblestone street with a European feel. We recommend the pepperoni square pizza at Adrianne’s or Beckett's for a pub/sports bar. For more of a formal meal, see our rec for nearby Harry's. For somewhere in between, see our rec for nearby Fraunces Tavern.
This is where KK & Murf had their very first date! It’s a casual spot for a cocktail and a bite. We love the cozy whiskey bar to the left with leather chairs in front of the fireplace. Feel free to venture upstairs to the museum to learn about its history. Established in 1762, the landmarked Fraunces Tavern is one of NYC’s oldest bars and restaurants. This building is most famous as the site where George Washington gave his farewell speech to his troops in 1783 at the end of the Revolutionary War.
A vibrant Italian market with an array of cafes, to-go counters, sit-down restaurants and more. This is a great lunch option. KK's pick: prosciutto, arugula, mozzarella from the I Panini counter. Murf's pick: prime rib sandwich from La Rosticceria counter. Get a gelato for dessert!
Murf’s favorite restaurant! Built in 1770, this is a casual but historic bar and restaurant that served as a speakeasy during the prohibition. We recommend the pork dumplings and you must ask for Coleman’s spicy mustard. Murf also loves the burger.
KK's favorite corner in NYC and steps away from KK & Murf's first apartment together! Tucked away on a very quaint side street of West Village, we recommend walking around this neighborhood to look at the townhouses and cobblestone streets. Would be great for brunch, lunch or dinner. Reservations needed.
Italian but not your average penne alla vodka & chicken parm! Unique dishes that are great for sharing. We recommend going across the street for a drink beforehand to Bar Pisellino, which is owned by the same restaurant group. Think Aperol Spritzes and martinis!
