Bridget- One of my New Year's resolution for 2019 was getting back into doing the things I love to do, one being bowling. I decided to rejoin a bowling league I had previously been a part of. I chose my team randomly from a list of teams that were available. Unfortunately, the first night of bowling I was the last person on the team to show up, as meeting my new teammates was not a priority on my list (I am not the best at first impressions). Shortly after arriving, I was introduced to all of my teammates including Sean McGrain. Sean - My friend and I saw an ad for a Social Bowling league on Facebook and decided it would be something fun to try. I Can't Believe it's Not Gutter seemed like the winning choice out of the 16 teams available. From there we were partnered with 5 other individuals, some of which my friend knew and some neither of us knew. On the first night my friend and I carpooled together as meeting new people is not my forte. As we got closer to the beginning of our first match, we started meeting everyone on the team one by one. Bridget was the last person on our team that I met that night.
Bridget- After bowling on the Thursday before the Super Bowl, Sean's friend invited everyone from the team over to his place to watch the Super Bowl. Initially I was unsure about going, but decided the day of I would go and be social with my teammates. Upon arriving at the party I realized I was the only other one on the team that was there besides Sean. I strategically decided to sit by Sean so I would not feel out of place talking to others I did not know. Throughout the game, we talked about a number of different things including sports. I really enjoyed myself and became comfortable, but thought nothing of the conversation we were having as more than a developing friendship. When leaving that night Sean gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek, which made me question if he wanted to be more than just friends. The next day he texted me Happy Birthday and we texted non-stop until our first date 10 days later. Sean - About 3 weeks into the bowling session we were all getting along great as a team. My friend decided to host a Super Bowl party and invited everyone from the bowling team. Bridget was one of the only people from our team that stopped over. Once the game started we all decided to move down to my friend's basement area where there was more room for everyone. Bridget and I ended up sitting next to each other from the kickoff to the end of the game and chatted through most of the game. It was the first real conversation that we had. I remember thinking when I left that she was an interesting person and I would like to get to know her more. The next day I texted her Happy Birthday. I was only expecting a quick response but it turned into a conversation that continued through the following week of bowling. We were clicking very well together and that following Thursday I asked if she wanted to go out some time.
Sean - The first time I met Bridget's family was right after Christmas in 2019. I arrived to Vegas late and we had plans to stop over her brother Jeff's house the next morning for breakfast. I was very nervous going into it, as I normally feel uncomfortable meeting new people. My nerves quickly went away when I met her brother and his family. Jeff was very talkative and welcoming, and his 2 eldest children were constantly asking me to play. Her mother, her brother John, and his wife stopped over as well and I felt the same welcoming feeling from all of them too. I felt very accepted by their family and it made the couple days we were there very nice and easy going. Bridget- Sean and I had been dating for 3 months and I wanted to do something nice for him. I had bought tickets to a baseball game in Pittsburgh so he could see his favorite baseball team play. His sister was going to be in Pittsburgh the same weekend and bought tickets to the game as well for her and her boyfriend. When we got to Pittsburgh I met his sister for the first time. We enjoyed the Carnegie Museums together early in the day and the Andy Warhol Museum before the game. Prior to the game we went to a restaurant by the stadium. As we were sitting at a table two individuals came up to the table: Sean and I looked at them quickly and I thought these must be people his sister knows. Sean then looked shocked and scared at the same time as he realized they were his parents. Come to find out his sister had planned a surprise prank on Sean that I became a part of without even knowing. Sean told me the next day he was terrified I was going to break up with him after the experience. I met the remainder of his family during Thanksgiving of that year.
Sean - May of 2020, I knew I was ready to propose to Bridget. We had an upcoming cabin trip planned with a couple of friends and I thought it would be a perfect time to pop the question. I found the perfect ring but it was a size too small, and unfortunately I did not have time to order the correct size ring before the trip. The jeweler suggested take the ring, propose and come back to get it resized afterwards. My plan was to go hiking Saturday morning and propose. Bridget unfortunately was not in the mood for a hike the morning of. Next to our room there was an open balcony area with a beautiful view, which was the perfect backup plan. The next hour or so felt like forever as we ate breakfast and Bridget finished getting ready. I then had to convince her to follow me to the balcony. I let her walk out first and when she turned around I popped the question and she said yes. I mentioned the ring was a size too small but during all the excitement she insisted she wanted to wear it for a couple hours. Afterwards - About 30 minutes later, Bridget informed me that she could not get the ring off her finger. Her finger looked very swollen and I knew we had to quickly get the ring off . We tried a number of ideas, but nothing seemed to work or help, as her finger kept swelling. We finally decided to go to Emergency Care for further assistance. After what felt like eternity of nothing working the nurses decided they needed to cut the ring off. The entire process was draining and overwhelming at the time, but now it is a story we can tell our friends and family for years to come bringing a smile to their faces!
