We were introduced by some mutual friends in August of 2012, Kitty's first year of college and Mitch's second. She lived in the dorm next door, and after our first meeting there was clear chemistry and we fell in love.
After spending a few years apart, we planned a trip to stay in New York together for a whole week. Sounds great, only one problem - our flight left on March 27th, 2020, when COVID was rampaging through New York. Instead, Kitty agreed to come down to Texas and quarantine with Mitch and his father's family. She stayed for five weeks, and by the end of her time visiting down there, we were looking for houses. We found a great one that summer, and began building our home together in July of 2020.
After several months of residence in our new home Mitch's mom Barb came to visit. With input from her, Kitty's friend Meredith, and Kitty's mom Robin, Mitch and his mom went out and selected the perfect ring for Kitty. Weeks later, when Mitch returned from an unexplained two-hour excursion with only a jar of fancy pickles to show for it, Kitty wasn't the least suspicious. At least, she wasn't until she saw the receipt from the jewelry store sitting on the kitchen counter. Regardless, Mitch proposed to her that November of 2020 in Lawrence, Kansas, the town where they met and had spent most of their time together, to great applause from onlookers. Thankfully, she said yes!
