We’re getting married!

This is a story about how a girl met a guy in a bar… but not just any guy - my Jack. It was a fall Thursday night, the kickoff for college football in 2016, when a couple of friends and I decided to go root on our Gamecocks (playing at Vanderbilt) at Village Idiot Pizza. Naturally, the place was jam packed, with only one open seat at the bar. I headed towards it and asked the person sitting next to the open seat if he was saving it for someone. He said no, and after some hesitation even offered up his chair and a round of drinks. Pretty nice guy after all. We ended up moving to a booth where I invited this guy to sit with us, probably against my friends’ approval. He joined and I learned that Jack had just moved here from Memphis, TN. The conversation was very casual, with a few laughs here and there. The Gamecocks were down early 10-0 and the crowd was not very happy, minus Jack. He seemed to be entertained by the poor play of my home team. As the clock ran out for halftime, he looked at me and asked, “What do you think the final score of this game will be?” Without hesitation I responded, “We’ll come back and win 13-10.” Jack shook his head and laughed at my comment. We talked for a few more minutes before he left to watch the game elsewhere. Fast forward to the final score of the game – South Carolina 13 – Vanderbilt 10. A few hours later, a Facebook notification appeared on my phone. It was a direct message from a stranger named Jack Lartigue that read, “Ummm, you called it! 13-10 ON THE DOT. Can you tell me what else is in my future??” Little did we both know… it was me.
