First met: 3/15/09 First date: 06/28/17 Proposal: 03/19/18 Wedding Day: 04/25/19
They officially met in March of 2009. Daryl started her first Vegas job at the Bellagio pool as a receptionist. Paul was a cabana host that summer. There wasn’t too much interaction, just friendly work hello’s and such. They both went their separate ways. Flash forward 8 years to April of 2017, Paul “friend requested” Daryl on Facebook. She didn’t think much of it, just an old acquaintance saying "hey". On Thursday, June 22, Daryl went down to the employee dining area at work for her break. Sitting at a table by herself, a super cute boy asked to sit with her. She looked kind of confused, but said “sure”. After he sat down, she realized it was Paul. A very different looking Paul. He’d lost about 80 pounds, wasn’t wearing glasses anymore, and had facial hair! They talked her entire 40 minute break. At the end of the conversation he gave her his number, which ironically was already saved in her phone. It had been there all along! After messaging him immediately after, he asked her out on their first date the following Wednesday. Come to find out, it was Paul’s first day on swing shift after working years on graveyard. And what do you know, he bumped into her after all that time as if it were just that easy...
As told from Paul: When I first thought about proposing to Daryl, I knew I wanted it to be unforgettable and I wanted to make sure it was unexpected (even though she SWORE she would know when it was happening.) I had a few ideas and I finally decided on doing it in an escape room. We both enjoy doing them, and had done them quite a few times with friends. After a few weeks of group texts and speaking with the escape room manager, the plan was in place. I had asked Daryl if she wanted to do an escape room with Mike, his wife Erin, and some friends because Mike had never done one before. I knew Daryl would want to because she and Mike have a history of being competitive. The room I chose was very fitting as the theme of the room was "Find the Diamond". After a brief intro video, Daryl jokingly asked "Are we looking for MY diamond??" Even though it made me nervous, I could tell she still had NO idea it was indeed her ring we were looking for. As we made our way through the rooms, with each clue we solved I got more and more nervous knowing I was going to pop the question. I didn't want to mess it up. As we made our way into the last room, she was the first to enter and try to figure out what we needed to do last. As she grabbed the ring box, she thought it was a prop and jokingly said "Oh, is this myyyy ring??" She then opened it for a clue and got the biggest shock when it was indeed her ring! The look on her face was shock and excitement. At that point, I got down on one knee, forgot everything I had planned to say and managed to ask her to marry me. She said YES in front of our friends (and the staff watching on camera). And I can say with full confidence that she had no idea of my slick ways with : Operation Proposal.
