We always say the universe works in funny ways… and our story literally started with taxes. It was a day Kirsten actually wasn’t supposed to work at H&R Block. She had switched shifts, unknowingly setting herself up for the most important “mistake” ever. She was working the front desk when Chris walked in for his appointment. She thought he was cute. He thought he was charming. And then he opened his mouth. Chris immediately started his signature corny commentary: “People must get so mad doing their taxes. Good thing the gym is right next door so they can go work out their frustration!” Then, while drinking the basic office coffee: “This is great coffee!” Kirsten thought he was silly… and slightly annoying… because he kept interrupting her. But she was also laughing—just a little. Once his tax appointment was over, Chris’s consultant tried to walk him out, but Chris wasn’t having it. He was obviously trying to get back to the front desk to talk to Kirsten. It was awkward… and obvious. He finally got to her and asked, “Do you want to go out sometime?” Caught off guard, Kirsten blurted, “Umm, I’m busy.” To which Chris replied (with full confidence), “Well obviously not right now.” Chris offered to give her his number and asked for a Post‑it. Kirsten started fumbling all over the desk looking for one, only for Chris to point directly in front of her: “It’s right there.” He left his number and walked out. She blushed. And she was sure she’d never see him again. …So naturally, Kirsten did a full background check. And then waited two whole weeks before texting him. And just like that— a tax appointment turned into a lifetime appointment.
