Kirsten's parents Heather and Britt White were married in The Old First Church in Heather's hometown of Bennington. 34 years later...Kirsten and Grayson are elated to take their vows in the same special spot and celebrate all weekend with their ones.
We have booked a Room Block at the Equinox Golf Resort and Spa. The reception will be held at the hotel in the ballroom, so it will be the most convenient option. Both Manchester and Bennington are popular tourist destinations, so PLEASE BOOK EARLY! In addition to this the 2025 Belmont Stakes, the final jewel of the Triple Crown, are in Saratoga Springs the same weekend. Because of this, we also recommend booking your flights early if you plan on flying in to Albany, New York (closest airport to the Equinox).
The short answer is absolutely! The closest airport is Albany International Airport. It is approximately 50 minutes from the airport to the Old First Church in Bennington. Its an hour and a half to the Equinox Golf Resort and Spa. Fortunately the drive goes through some of New England's scenic byways! We recommend renting a car if you want to explore the area plus Manchester + Bennington have extremely limited ride share services.
The Ceremony & Reception are Black Tie Optional. Woman should opt for a floor-length gown, knee-length cocktail dress, a pantsuit, or dressy separates. Spring florals and colors are appreciated! Ladies, keep in mind you might be walking on some grass, so choose your shoes accordingly. Men are encouraged to wear a suit in any color or tuxedo.

June in Vermont can range from 52 degrees to 75 degrees on average. While temperatures can occasionally reach the high 80s, the cool mountain breeze keeps the climate comfortable. Brisk mountain showers can also be expected this time of year. We recommend packing layers! Both the Wedding Ceremony and Reception will be indoors. The Cocktail Hour before the Reception Friday will be on the Lincoln Lawn at the Equinox. There will be heaters and fire pits, but be sure to bring a jacket in case the evenings are a bit chillier. The sun sets around 8:30 p.m. this time of year, so plenty of daylight for outdoor activities!
There will not be transportation to and from the Ceremony in Bennington. We recommend carpooling! The drive from the Equinox to the Old First Church is approximately 25 minutes. There is a scenic back road or a highway option both with similar ride times. The Old First Church dates back to 1762. There is not a guest friendly restroom onsite, so we would recommend the Battle of Bennington Monument restrooms up the hill if needed.
The Old First Church was gathered on December 3, 1762, the first Protestant congregation in the New Hampshire Grants. The organizers were Separatists, influenced by the Great Awakening, from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, and were proprietors of the new finding land and opportunity in the new town of Bennington. The columns are hand-planed from the whole trunk of pine trees and extend from the basement footers to the rafters. Notice in the ceiling the cross embracing the world. The exterior corner decorations are wood blocks, meant to resemble the stone of European churches. The present sanctuary, completed in 1805, is the first church built in Vermont that reflects the separation of church and state. That is, the state would have no role in the maintenance of the church’s building or ministry; and the church would be free to support and direct its own work. The pew and wall plaques honor Vermonters who contributed significantly to society (not necessarily church members), including Robert Frost who spoke at the rededication (and whose gravesite is just down the hill).
The 200-room Equinox House, predecessor to The Equinox of today, was established in 1853. The north wing of the inn was the original Orvis family homestead, and its fireplace continues to warm guests in the Chop House restaurant. During its long history, The Equinox has hosted an array of distinguished guests, including Presidents William Howard Taft, Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt—who gave a campaign speech on the front lawn—and Benjamin Harrison, as well as Vice President James S. Sherman. President Abraham Lincoln's wife visited the Equinox with her two sons during the summer of 1864. She enjoyed her summer so much, she made reservations to visit again the following year with the president. A special suite was constructed in anticipation of the Lincolns’ visit, but the president was assassinated on April 14, 1865. Lincoln’s son, Robert Todd Lincoln, loved the area so much he built his summer estate, Hildene, just down the road.
We realize this destination is a journey for all of you. We are aware that scheduling time away from family and work may pose challenges, so if this time of the year does not fit into your current situation we sincerely understand and hope to see you all soon. We will gladly accept your prayers and warm wishes from afar! Thank you again for your continuous love, as we begin our lives together. We can not wait for the BIG DAY and look forward to celebrating with you all...near or far! Love, Kirsten & Grayson
