After nearly 15 years in the National Guard, Kirsheng returned to Taiwan in the summer of 2023 — his childhood home, and a place he hadn’t been back to in nearly a decade. What seemed like just another assignment became the beginning of our story. At the same time, Polly was living her everyday life in Taiwan, working in the shipping industry and enjoying the simple comfort of her daily routine — including her mom’s homemade lunches. Until ... One afternoon, Polly went to a local dumpling shop near her office, because for once she didn't have lunch. The line was long, and just a few steps behind her stood Kirsheng. A simple question about what to order turned into an easy conversation. With the restaurant packed, we ended up sharing a table. Between dumplings and conversation, something clicked, neither of us expected.

Long distance wasn't easy, but we always knew we were worth the wait—never missing a morning or goodnight call across the ocean. At the end of 2024, Kirsheng arrived in Taiwan with a secret plan. He insisted on a 5 a.m. hike up Elephant Mountain. Polly (who loves sleep far more than sunrises) tried to resist, but eventually gave in. At the peak, overlooking the Taipei skyline, Kirsheng asked a local "auntie" to take our photo. Instead of posing, Kirsheng dropped to one knee. With all her heart, Polly said YES. Our sweet "photographer" was so touched that she asked for a photo with us before we left, saying she wanted to share the special moment with her daughter she had just witnessed! From dumplings to sunrise hikes, our story has always been full of unexpected joy. And now, we can’t wait to begin our next chapter together.
