One summer night, Katie saw one of her softball teammates post on her Snapchat story a video of Bryce making a beergarita (it's a thing). Katie asked her friend, "Who's that? He's pretty easy on the eyes." Her friend shared it with Bryce, they exchanged numbers, and the rest is history. On August 28, 2016, Katie and Bryce went on their first date to an Indianapolis Colts pre-season game.
After going out on different dates in Indy, Bryce and Katie took a trip to Chicago. They saw the Chicago Navy Pier, went biking along Lake Michigan, and hung out in Wrigleyville during the 2016 World Series Game 3 for the Cubs versus the Indians. After the trip, they decided to make it official (boyfriend and girlfriend, that is)!
It was a chilly Friday where Bryce was off work for the day and making dinner. He was making what Katie requested, beef and noodles with mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes are her favorite. Katie didn't think anything of it, and when he asked her to take Stella out, Katie and Stella came back to the lights turned off and candles lit in their kitchen. Bryce got down on one knee and popped the question, and Katie said yes! They celebrated this intimate moment together in their home they bought together in Ingalls, Indiana.
