Online dating woohoo! Sam and Kirk are one of a handful of couples who've met on fledgling dating site: Coffee Meets Bagel. Sam agreed to meet Kirk for a drink at Suite Lounge. Always kind and considerate she didn't let him know what a terrible choice it was for a first date. It was easy to find each other as the only two people in the bar. Not phased at all they said hi and Sam suggested they move on to a better place. The connection was instantaneous as they got to know each other out on Wells street during an early summer night. Sam had a plane to catch in the morning for the wedding of one of her closest friends and the night ended at Walgreens buying the requisite travel bag of Gummy Bears!
Living in San Francisco for 3 years it was time for a change. Sam and Kirk after months of talk finally pulled the trigger, quit their jobs, gave up their loved SF apartment, and set off to explore South America for 8 months together. They started in Colombia to learn as much Spanish as possible. Then traveled through Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico experiencing the breadth and diversity of the continent. From the northernmost Mars-like landscape of 'La Guajira' to the southernmost mountains and cold of 'Tierra del Fuego' and many places in between. Meeting incredible people along the way and proving beyond a doubt they could survive anything together it was an adventure of a lifetime!
5 years too long or just right? Having moved together from Chicago to San Francisco to South America and now to New York, we've made it through a lot of change. Settling down in Brooklyn it was time (maybe a little past time) to pop the question. Sam was coming back from San Francisco (off of a redeye...) and didn't see it coming. After a relaxing Saturday of recovery and a massage, we headed to Prospect Park for a few late afternoon beers in the park. Setting up for the picnic, and much to Sam's surprise, Kirk proposed!! Then we both celebrated with our family's who were still patiently waiting nearby.
