In May, the average temperature is around 78 degrees with balmy breezes. In Hawai‘i, though, it's common to have several light showers throughout the day. It's also common for one part of the island to experience rain while other parts of sunny and blue skies. But it's generally a beautiful, sunny time of year.
Check the “getting to Hawai‘i" section for more details. The short answer: Honolulu on the island of O‘ahu.
About 30-40 minutes from Kailua and 15-20 minutes from Kāne‘ohe.
The ceremony starts promptly at 4:00 p.m. so we ask that everyone be in their seats by no later than 3:40 p.m. If you're driving from Kailua, plan on a 30-40 minute travel time. If you're driving from Kāne‘ohe, plan on a 15-20 minute travel time. Also, keep in mind that on the East Side of O‘ahu (where Kualoa Ranch is), the highway is reduced down to one lane so if there's an accident or traffic, it could create delays. Better to arrive early than late!
Once you enter Kualoa Ranch, head towards the left side of the Ranch (when facing the mountains). Follow the road between the buildings towards the mountains. Continue past the buildings up the road towards Paliku Gardens. Paliku Gardens is nestled just below the mountains. Free parking is available on the lawns directly adjacent to the site (to the right when facing the mountains).
Yes. O‘ahu does have both ride-sharing services, but mostly centralized in urban Honolulu. Kailua does not have many Ubers/Lyfts. There are virtually no Ubers/Lyfts by Kualoa Ranch, where the wedding venue is located.
If you wish to explore around the island and secure your travel to and from the wedding venue, we suggest that you rent a car. Public transportation (i.e., the bus) is not very good. Oʻahu has Ubers and Lyfts, but mostly in the urban core of Honolulu, not so much out by Kailua or Kāne‘ohe.
The Bus system (it's literally called “The Bus"), but we do not recommend it. It's slow and often carries a colorful crowd.
For Clothes: Your bathing suit! Shorts, jeans, t-shirts, breathable short-sleeved collared shirts. Maybe a light, thin zip-up hoodie for the evenings when it gets cool. Bring sneakers or hiking shoes if you plan on going hiking, but you'll probably want to wear slippers (the local word for flip-flops or sandals) for the rest of the time. Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, phone chargers, a car charger, and extra room in your suitcase to bring home Hawaiian goodies! And of course, pack something nice for the wedding!
Semiformal. Men: Dress shirt or collared shirt, dress pants or slacks. Tuxedo/suite not required. Tie/bowtie is optional. Dress shoes. Women: Cocktail dress, long dressy skirt & top, or dress up in evening gown! Wedges or flats are recommended. Please note: The wedding ceremony & reception will both take place outdoors on grass. The reception area will be covered.
We do not have a hotel block because all the hotels are located in Waikīkī/Honolulu, which is about 30 minutes away from Kailua, and an hour away from Kualoa Ranch. We recommend you stay at an Airbnb in Kailua or Kāne‘ohe. Feel free to reach out to Kira or Zach to give you tips on places to stay.
Yes.
Uhhh...HELL YEAH! There will be LOTS of dancing!
Please reach out to Zach or Kira ASAP so we can accommodate you!
Please respond via this website by no later than March 15, 2019. To RSVP, please visit the “rsvp" section of this website.
As of now, there will be no transportation provided to/from the ceremony/reception.
Yes! How convenient!
Of course!
This is essentially our rehearsal dinner (we thought Ohana Shindig sounded cooler). Family and close friends are invited.
If you plan to join us for a drink the day before the wedding, we suggest you look up the location of Tchin Tchin. Tchin is located in Chinatown in downtown Honolulu. Your best bet is to find street parking (metered, free after 6PM) or park in the paid public garages on Bethel St. or Smith/Beretania St. (1-35 N. Beretania St.), or the open-air lot on Smith St. Another option is Mark's Garage on 21 Chaplain Lane in Chinatown.
Please refer to the “things to do" section of this website.
Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate all children. If your invitation does not include your children, we ask that you plan accordingly.
We do not have any contacts for a baby sitter so you'll have to seek one out on your own. Sorry!
