Question

How do I get to Wacharas Ranch?

Answer

From I-25: 1. Take exit 52 from I-25 S toward US-160 W/Walsenburg 2. Proceed 2.5 miles to Walsenburg. 3. In Walsenburg, turn right onto US-160 W/W 7th St 4. Proceed 11.1 miles.***SEE NOTE BELOW*** 5. Turn left onto CO-12 E at the sign for La Veta. 6. Proceed 4.5 miles until reaching the north end of La Veta's Main St 7. Turn left (east) onto Moore Ave, immediately after crossing the train tracks. 8. Proceed a 1/2 mile. 9. Turn left (north) onto Valley Rd/County Road 350. 10. Proceed 2.9 miles. 11. Wacharas Ranch is on the left (north) side of Valley Rd. Turn and go down the long driveway. Address: 3583 County Road 350, La Veta, CO 81055 [Google thinks the entrance is 1/3 mile south of its actual location, don't be fooled.] ***NOTE: Your GPS may recommend turning onto Valley Rd from US-160, ~1 mile previous to CO-12. WE ADVISE AGAINST THIS. The turn is difficult to see, positioned on a hazardous embankment, and there is no turn lane.***

Question

I heard there's a local forest fire? What's going on with the Spring Fire?

Answer

For those coming from out of town, Colorado has been hit hard by forest fires this year, including one near the La Veta. The fire is now entirely contained in the areas near La Veta. You might see some Red Cross and National Guard folks in the area because La Veta has been a base for emergency personnel. The air quality is good now with an occasional faint scent of smoke in the air when the wind blows. We would not be having the wedding at the ranch if we thought that it wasn't safe. However, there is always the chance that the wind can change direction and blow some residual smoke into the area. For those who have respiratory/lung conditions, please bring any medications or supplies you might need just in case. We will also have some masks to wear during outdoor activities in case it affects anyone. Call Ethan or Kira if you have questions or concerns!

Question

What time should I arrive by?

Answer

The ceremony will start at 2pm. Feel free to arrive around 1:15pm-1:30pm to get parked, sunscreened, and situated.

Question

What should I bring?

Answer

Assuming nice weather (fingers crossed everybody), the wedding and some of the activities will be outside! We recommend sunglasses and a rain jacket. We will provide sunscreen and bugspray. There will be hay and farm animals, so if you have allergies or asthma make sure to bring any meds that you might need! If you are camping, please bring your own gear. Ya know, the usual tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and rain fly. If you are planning to do yoga, please bring your own yoga mat if you have one!

Question

Where should I park?

Answer

We will have designated parking along the driveway into the ranch. Look for signs!

Question

What is the terrain and environment like?

Answer

It's a working cattle ranch in rural Colorado. Most of the outdoor events will be held in areas where folks will be walking on cut scrub grass or dirt; however, there is a chance that your wanderings might lead you to encounter uneven terrain, mud, tall grasses, bush, bramble, pokies, stickers, burs, etc. It can get buggy, sunny, rainy, windy, dusty -- sometimes all of these simultaneously. Please note - we are in ranchin' country. Besides the large cattle and a feisty chihuahua that lives at the ranch, there are plenty of wildlife critters around. Please be mindful (especially if you have kiddos) that there can be deer, rattlesnakes, coyotes, and rarely, mountain lions around the ranch. If you go for a walk-about, we recommend the buddy system.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Think functional (read the above), comfortable, and a little bit snazzy. You'll definitely be glad wearing boots and jeans, maybe with a nice button up shirt. You'll likely regret wearing high heels. A dress could work with sturdy, high top boots; you might want to consider a dress length that won't drag in the dirt or get stuck on brush. It's not formal, so you can leave your tuxedos and evening gowns at home. Feel free to wear your western attire!

Question

What about campfires, smoking, and other forms of combustion?

Answer

Colorado is extremely dry right now and there have been many forest fires around the state. Please refrain from smoking if at all possible. If you are camping, please NO CAMPFIRES! A lot of folks in the surrounding areas have lost their homes recently due to an accidental, human-started fire, and Mama Williams will be unhappy if we burn down the ranch. Thank you!

Question

When do I get to eat?

Answer

We will have hors d'oeuvres after the ceremony, followed by a local farm-to-table buffet-style dinner. The next morning we will have a casual breakfast. Reach out to us if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies!
