Our first date was at Pie Society, a local speakeasy. When we showed up, it was PACKED. The kind of packed that makes you wonder if the universe is giving you an easy out, but luckily, neither of us took it. We ended up at Black Knight, home of the legendary Wine Wednesday special (RIP Black Knight). Heather told her friends to meet her there since this was just a “quick first date drink.” We hit it off instantly, talking and laughing like we'd known each other forever. Trevor ended up tagging along for friends-night-out and fit right in. What was supposed to be a casual first date turned into an eight-hour evening full of good wine, bad dance moves, and the start of something that felt effortlessly right.
For our first international trip together, we planned two dream weeks. The first exploring Scotland with Trevor’s family (castles, heritage, and all things tartan), and the second soaking up romance, food, and wine in Italy. The moment we landed in Scotland, Trevor suggested we hike up to Arthur’s Seat, a beautiful lookout over Edinburgh. Heather, running on zero sleep and pure jet lag, agreed to power through. Trevor was practically sprinting up the mountain while Heather took her time… stopping every few minutes to “enjoy the view” (breathe). About halfway up, it started pouring rain. Visibility dropped, our clothes were soaked, and Heather said, “Maybe we should stop here, we’re basically at the top!” But Trevor insisted we had to get to the top (where a very patient photographer was waiting in the rain). Moments later, we reached the top, completely surrounded by mist and the rolling hills of Scotland, Trevor got down on one knee and said he’d been thinking about this moment since our second date. We spent the next two weeks in Europe celebrating. From the hills of Scotland to the cobblestone streets (and endless pasta) of Italy, soaking up every minute of our first adventure as fiancés.
