Chanelle and Kinsey met on Tinder the very first week of the pandemic. We had our first tea/coffee date over Zoom. Our plan was to meet after the pandemic was over, but we obviously couldn’t wait to meet each other!
We knew we wanted to propose to one another. We picked out rings, and set an “engagement weekend” so we would both be free from work and other responsibilities. Kinsey planned for Chanelle to get home from their work holiday party and walk into the apartment scattered with rose petals, pictures, and memories “staged”, ultimately ending up with her on one knee (very dramatic). Chanelle had plans too, and that plan was for Kinsey to fall asleep so they could pack for a surprise weekend at the Fairmont in Downtown Austin. As Kinsey stayed up waiting for Chanelle, Chanelle stayed at the party texting Kinsey and urging her to go to sleep! At 1am, Kinsey let it slip intentionally that she had “a surprise waiting for (Chanelle) at home”. Chanelle finally came home, needing to pee in the very apartment Kinsey had set up for the engagement surprise. Not perfectly, but imperfectly perfect, Kinsey proposed to Chanelle, who said “yes”. Kinsey finally went to sleep and Chanelle went to work packing everything as quickly and as sleathily as possible for both of them, until 3am. The next day, Chanelle arranged a duet of “Daylight” by Taylor Swift…our couple song. Kinsey had just gotten over bronchitis so though it was a one-sided performance, it was beautiful. Chanelle was helped by our dog, Gus, to help propose! He had a tag on his collar that said “please say yes”, and Chanelle proposed with a huge, beautiful ring, to which Kinsey said: “holy SH*T!” in surprise. Another surprise was when they pulled into the parking lot of The Fairmont with “lunch reservations”, and Chanelle checked us into the hotel! They’d even arranged for Gus to stay with his best friend, Rvca, and our best friend, Amanda! From there, we had dinner at The Melting Pot, got very confused by a food warmer in our hotel room, and had a magical weekend. A great beginning to our happily ever after.
