Question

What is the ceremony overview?

Answer

Baraat The wedding starts with Jason’s arrival on a horse surrounded by family & friends with music & dancing. It is a lively start to the day as Jason’s family makes their way to the wedding. Ponkvanu & Jaimala Kinjal’s family welcomes Jason with aarti & a chanlo. Kinjal & Jason exchange flower garlands. Madhuparka Jason makes his way to the mandap & is welcomed by Kinjal’s parents. Antarpaat Kinjal makes her way to the mandap. As she walks down the aisle, a cloth (antarpaat) is placed in front of Jason so they don’t see each other until the perfect time. Kanyadaan Kinjal’s parents give her away, blessing them with happiness. Hasta Melap & Pheras A knot is tied between Kinjal & Jason to symbolize their union. They make their way around a sacred fire 4 times symbolizing the 4 pillars of a happy marriage. Pay attention to a fun part that Kinjal’s brothers have. During each turn around the fire, family & friends shower the couple with petals. Saptapadi Kinjal & Jason take 7 steps while reciting 7 sacred vows. Sindoor & Mangalsutra In lieu of traditional wedding rings, Jason applies sindoor (vermillion) to Kinjal’s hair & ties a mangulsutra (necklace) around her neck. Aashirvad The newlyweds touch their elders’ feet for blessings. Vidai Kinjal’s family bids her an emotional farewell as she begins her life with Jason. Bonus: stealing the shoes When Jason enters the mandap he has to take off his shoes. Kinjal’s family & friends will try to steal his shoes. If they succeed, he will need to negotiate & joke his way to get them back. Bonus 2: stopping the car During the Vidai, Kinjal’s sisters will try to block the car so Jason can’t leave with her. He better be ready with a good bribe to be able to get the bride. This is meant to be a lighthearted moment in what is otherwise a somber part of the ceremony. Western ceremony In the evening we will gather once more for a western ceremony. This service includes readings, vows & the exchange of wedding rings.
