Their first date was down in San Diego where it's only fitting to meet for beer, since San Diego has no shortage of breweries. Katie suggested a pool hall, so to a pool hall they went. After a few resounding losses at pool, Garrett spotted the foosball table. "Redemption!" he thought. Garrett grew up playing foosball and knew it was a guaranteed win. He decided what better way to woo his new beau than to explain how badly he was going to beat her at this game. Katie just smirked (uncharacteristically, since as everyone knows she is fluent at trash talk). Not ten minutes later, the score was ten to zero and Garrett had been skunked. Katie had grown up playing foosball too <3.
Katie and Garrett are avid hikers who both grew up traveling to Yosemite Valley with their families. Garrett decided this was the perfect place to propose, but wanted to wait until he was out of the Navy. Unfortunately for Garrett, 2020 had other plans. Yosemite Park ended up closing its gates. Once it reopened, Garrett immediately got a permit to enter. He took Katie for a sunrise hike to Taft Point where he proposed. Katie managed to neither push him or the ring over the edge in her surprise.
