America's Oldest Brewery, located right here in Schuylkill County. The tour takes you through the lagering caves, the brewing systems and even the bottling/canning plant. The journey ends with a tasting in the immaculately restored tasting room, where you can try brewery and area specific beers, as well as shop anything Yuengling you can find.
Take a trip into a real Pennsylvania Anthracite Coal Mine. The rail car brings you a mile or so into the mountain. To complete the trip, there are historic steam trains that run from the site as well.
The Switzerland of Pennsylvania! This small town has a terrifically kept 1800s downtown, nestled in the mountains and alongside the Lehigh river. A tourist attraction known for great hiking, art, restaurants, breweries and scenic train rides.
It's not owned by Tony, and it's not open for lunch, but it does serve up a great hyper-regional style of burger late at night. Famous for it's Screamer, a burger topped with a super-hot hot sauce, and sometimes accompanied with Marshmallow Fluff.
It's the best Kielbasy this side of the Atlantic (and some may so the other side as well).
Great coffee spot!
One of the world's foremost migratory bird research centers, a beautiful mountain filled with great hiking, birds, and tremendous views of the valleys on either side.
The Sweetest Place On Earth is just a 45 minute drive away, featuring great roller coasters and, of course, plenty of chocolate.
The East Coast's only geyser! While not naturally occurring, it is still there - formed from an old mine shaft's air escape valve, long since filled with water that's found its convenient way out.
A beloved diner serving up great fare from classic diner dishes to Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine and Coal Region specialties. Also noted by Jess & Ryan for their excellent Bloody Marys that punch way above their $5 price tag. Also a terrific spot for breakfast!
The ghost town where the underground is on fire, probably forever. While you won't see much of it in September, there is a mine fire beneath the town that has been blazing since the 70s, leaving only a few houses left, while nature takes over the gridded streets.
