Our Engagement Story

Friday April 12, 2024

Written by the Bride It was Friday afternoon, Scott was working from home while I spent the day volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. As I pulled up to our apartment around 3:30pm, I noticed Scott's car was missing. I opened the front door, a note in Scott's handwriting, caught my eye. "Time for a change of plans…I am not here right now,” it read. I giggled, and spotted a plate of freshly baked black bottoms along with another note on the dining table. “I’ve left you a homemade snack. And some more instructions in our room,” the note teased. Curious, I made my way to our bedroom. There, on our bed, was our adorable cat, Cheddar Bacon Scone, a bunch of red roses, some tealight candles and my suitcase with more notes. "This was the one thing I could not do for you…so here is what you need to pack. And don’t stress too hard over this part," the notes read, listing out my packing list. The final note read, "No dilly-dallying! When you're packed, get in your car and type in this address: 26 Randall St. Annapolis, MD, 21401. Try to get here at 5pm. Valet will be waiting. <3" My heart raced. The excitement soon gave way to panic. I had to shower, pack, and get ready, all in just an hour! And here I was, literally covered in mud and sweat from the day’s volunteering. But as anyone who knows me can vouch, I am efficient. Sure enough, I was ready on time. At 5pm, I arrived at the Flag House Inn in Annapolis, MD, where Scott - looking as handsome as ever - was there to greet me. I got out of the car, a giggly bundle of nerves, and Scott took my hand. He explained our weekend plan, that we would be staying at the Inn, in the largest suite no less with a HUGE bathtub. I am a bubble bath enthusiast. As we approached the entrance of the Inn, Scott paused, looked deep into my eyes and said, "Well Babe, I think you've waited long enough.” He reached into a nearby bush, pulled out a navy blue ring box, got down on one knee and asked "Will you marry me?". With the soft sound of camera shutters in the background, I beamed, "Yes, of course!" We spent the next hour taking photos around the Inn with the photographer Scott had thoughtfully hired. After that, Scott revealed our weekend suite - a luxurious space with a huge bathtub, a plush king-size bed, and a separate living room. For dinner, we headed to Osteria 177 on Main Street in Annapolis, where we enjoyed a wonderful meal and shared our happy news with family and friends. The next day, Scott and I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Inn, reached out to more friends and loved ones, and he even surprised me with a spa appointment! We wrapped up the day with a fabulous steak dinner - my favorite - at Ruth's Chris. Our wonderful engagement weekend was over. Now onto wedding planning!
