How We Met

Love at First Swipe

“What kind of psychology are you into?” Rockwell messaged Kim after matching on Coffee Meets Bagel, a not-so-popular dating app. Kim responded that she was getting her PhD in School Psychology, and from that point there was never a break in the conversation. What can only be described as novel-length messages quickly turned to high school-esque late night phone calls and the proposal of a “zero-th date.” The zero-th date was an idea pitched by Kim as a no strings attached first meeting for something casual. They walked Kim's puppy Baby Dex down Bayshore Boulevard where the connection was instantaneous. So nervous from the interaction, Rockwell didn’t even ask Kim on a real first date. Not long after getting in the car for the ride home, Rockwell called Kim and asked her out for dinner the following week. He knew she was a keeper when, on their first date to Bulla, Kim did the check shuffle and then offered to take the leftovers. A few more dates and some home cooked lasagna and the rest is history.

The Proposal

Cedar Key to My Heart

It started with a Memorial Day trip to Cedar Key to stay the weekend at their favorite cabin. While Kim thought it was just going to be a regular holiday weekend spent bopping around town, Rockwell had a much bigger idea. Trying to play it smooth, he asked Kim if she would like to go and watch the sunset later that evening with Dexter, before dinner. Able to keep it cool until right before they left the house, Rockwell began pacing around the cabin as Kim finished getting ready. Kim noticed his restlessness and poked Rockwell in the chest in a playful manner, not fully realizing that she poked the engagement ring in his front shirt pocket. Rockwell immediately moved the ring to a different pocket and off they went to view the sunset from a beautiful vantage point up the road. Upon arriving at the spot, conversation began flowing as easily as it always did and Rockwell knew that it was the right moment. He started from the beginning of their journey and began telling Kim all the reasons he loved her. Not catching on to the fact that a proposal was imminent, Kim began engaging in chit-chat and responding with her own memories of their time together. At the right moment, Rockwell dropped to a knee and coyly pulled the ring out of his pocket. “Kim, will you marry me?”
