We officially met after the last bell ring of our sophomore year of high school. We more than likely had very different ideas of what that summer would be. I had my driver's license and was freer than a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, Matt had baseball and was tied to a summer of volunteering. We began a friendship over movies, video games, and music which led into a "summer love" relationship that didn't have a September expiration. Matt introduced me to his love for Texas Tech and we moved to the LBK to become ol' flatlanders for several years!
Matt and I have loved traveling and I had always mentioned going to NYC. His answer was always maybe someday, not really my style, and during Christmas would be the only time (he wanted to retrace Kevin McCallister's footsteps from Home Alone 2). So when he asked if I wanted to go to NYC around Christmas out of nowhere I was a little suspicious. We had the best trip ever and it was coming to an end. I had a feeling he'd propose this trip but we'd been to Rockefeller center (where I supposed it'd take place) about 5 times at this point. He wanted to make one last trip to Central Park before the plane took off. At this point it was snowing, the first snow of the year, and it was beautiful. We walked to a certain place and Matt asked if I wanted to take a picture. He had never been the one to initiate pictures before... He asked a couple passing by if they could take a picture of us and he was far enough away I couldn't hear what he was saying but with the detailed explanation he seemed to be giving them I did get excited. We stood in front of an icy lake with a trees covered in snow surrounding it and he proposed.
