Our Story

In May 2021, both Kim and Dustin were living in Fairmount, Philadelphia. Both of them on Hinge, their story started with one very simple message. Dustin had uniquely written his name in ALL CAPS on his profile, so when Kim came across one of his prompts (“My guilty pleasure is… falling asleep with my AirPods in”), she decided to swipe right and reply with just one word: “DUSTIN.” That was it. In all caps. Somehow, the conversation took off from there. It took a little while for them to finally meet in person, but eventually they made it happen. Their first date was at Urban Saloon in Fairmount. Earlier that day, Dustin had jury duty back in his hometown of Forty Fort, PA — nearly two hours away — while Kim sat at home laughing at the Snapchats he was sending from court. That night, they finally met up, split some apps, ordered two Blue Moons, and quickly bonded over their shared love of music. By the end of the date, they had already created a collab Spotify playlist, creatively titled Urban Saloon. Five years later, Kim and Dustin now live nearby in Northern Liberties, but every year on May 9th, they make their way back to Urban Saloon for apps and Blue Moons to celebrate the night that started it all <3

How Dustin Popped the Question

Wednesday, March 12th started off like any typical Wednesday. Dustin and Kim were both working remotely from their apartment when, out of nowhere, Dustin walked up to Kim’s desk with some unexpected news. They had dinner reservations planned for Kim’s birthday that Friday, March 14th, but according to Dustin, the restaurant had called and said they had accidentally overbooked Friday night and could no longer accommodate them. The only option was coming in that night instead. Kim, already having a stressful workday, reluctantly asked Dustin if he gave the restaurant any pushback considering it was her birthday (lol). But ultimately, she agreed to switch the reservation. That evening, they headed to Fork in Old City for dinner. When the host asked if he could take their jackets, Dustin quickly said no as the ring was sitting in his jacket pocket (a little suspicious in Kim's mind). Dinner was delicious, and afterwards Dustin called an Uber home. As they walked toward the corner where the Uber was supposedly picking them up, Dustin suddenly made a sharp right turn into Old City Kitchen, where Kim saw the words “Marry Me” set up in the middle of the room. Dustin then got down on one knee and popped the question. It was not an easy surprise to pull off, but somehow, Dustin completely caught Kim off guard.
