HER VERSION: Well...when I first saw him I turned around annoyed at how loud he was being. We were both at our church volunteering that Sunday. He honestly was just being what I would later learn was his normal goofy self...only it was like just barely 8am. And if you don't already know Winston struggles with the concept of his own volume lololol. So I turned around thinking "who is being THIS loud right now". When I turned around he was mid laugh and I literally thought "well at least he's cute and loud". There was a block party after church and I was the one passing out food tickets. Winston got his ticket, got food, and came back for a second ticket. We had a natural banter and were joking literally immediately after he asked for the 2nd food ticket. I caved in (sorry Pastor Chet lol) but this time after getting food he came back inside & we ended up talking for over an hour. To know me is to know that I just do not talk to strangers...cute or not. So to be talking to some random guy for over an hour was crazy. After leaving church that day I asked my friend who he was. I found his instagram from her page and followed him that night. HIS VERSION: It was a Sunday afternoon. Church was having its summer block party & I was trying to finesse some food. So very my first conversation with my wife was me trying to trick her to give me more tickets🙈😂 I told her my twin brother was on the way to the block party and I needed tickets for him. I showed her pictures and everything so the lie would be believable...Lord forgive me. But later that afternoon after the block party was winding down we started talking. There might’ve been other ppl there, but the only person I remember talking to is Kimmie. I’m pretty good at holding conversation with strangers (a skill I picked up from my pops, so thanks Dad😂). We were just chatting and vibing. I was being my normal kind and goofy self. And clearly that was enough because she hasn’t stopped trying to talk to me since!
HER VERSION: Our first date was very chill, very comfortable, and ver conversational. Leading up to him actually asking me out I was very obviously flirting with him. I was very direct and straightforward...but when he asked me out- instant butterflies. I just got sooo nervous. Like literally bubble guts kinda nerves lol. I was texting every friend I could like "girl HELP". But we got to October 1st and we went to dinner. We sat down and it was a little quiet at first, but he started talking and we literally didn't stop talking the entire time. All my nerves went out the window after that first question and he hasn't been able to shut me up since. HIS VERSION: I Took her to Don Pedro. Saturday, October 1st, 2022. I don’t even remember what the heck. I ordered. I just remember us talking and getting to know one another. She told me about her massive family, the fact that she didn’t know how to drive, her life and what it was like growing up in church. I remember being so excited at the fact that we had such similar experiences as church kids. I remember being so nervous in the hours leading up to the date. It was my first time asking a woman out with serious intentions, so I just wanted it to go well. Hoping she wasn’t boring, or more importantly that I didn’t scare her off. But once the date was done I remember going to my Aunt Yashica’s house, talking with brothers, Abraham & Deborah and telling them “I think I’d like to hang out with her again."
HER VERSION: OMG! I was so mad he actually got me. After we went ring shopping I just KNEW I was going to know when the time came. He told me we were going to an event to celebrate his parents' anniversary & at first I was suspicious but it was so soon after we went ring shopping, my sisters & my closest friends were all traveling that weekend, and his parents' anniversary was coming up so I had deducted that it was absolutely not happening then. Little did I know that I was in fact right. He took me to dinner before & I literally cried just talking with him about our story and how far we had come in 2 years. We arrive and I walk in to a camera in my face, a runway covered in rose pedals and looked over to see those white letters spelling out "Marry Me". All our close family and friends were hiding in the back and the ones that couldn't make it were on zoom. Needless to say I said "YES" & here I am preparing to say "I do". HIS VERSION: She was never supposed to know I bought the ring, let alone actually being with me when I did. So as soon as I bought the ring I made up in mind that she wouldn’t know anything else. I spent 2 weeks trying to figure out the where & how.. and I decided how on July 16. My Aunt Betina had a beautiful clubhouse in her neighborhood. So I called her & asked if I could use that space. Once she gave me the availability, everything else fell into place pretty easily. Lying to Kimmie for surprises comes pretty easy for me😂I told her we’d be going to a party celebrating my parents anniversary. I thought it was a pretty believable lie but I had my concerns she’d sniff it out. Her sisters being out of town that weekend was exactly what I needed for my lie to be properly sold😂I reached out to my wonderful sister in law Payge who coordinated with everyone on Kimmie’s side of the family to let them know the plan. I started recording videos of myself the days leading up to the proposal for her & I even let her pick out my wardrobe the day before.
