Once upon a time, Kim downloads Tinder. When she arrived on Matt's profile, she exclaimed to herself: "I can FINALLY swipe right!" Unfortunately for Matt, she immediately forgot about the app. Two weeks later, she realized her forgetful ways, and hastily checked the app, and discovered a message - how exciting! - Uh oh, from 2 weeks ago. . . No worries though, Matt was still there, and the two quickly jumped into conversations about skiing, snowboarding, hockey, The Grateful Dead, The Weakerthans. It didn't take long to discover they had a lot in common, including returning to school to pursue a second career, and multiple dentists on their families. Their first date took them to 'Park House', a humble and cozy pub on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. Matt best remembers how shy Kim was to start, and Kim best remembers the amaaaazing falafel. Oh wait- and the 5 hours of conversation that ensued! The Canadian Mounties, a song about Saskatoon, the NHL playoffs, were some of the hot topics. It was such a fun night to remember, and we frequently return to that first table we sat at together. We are even on a first name basis with Zameer* - the man behind the best falafel in Pittsburgh!
Kim and Matt were visiting Kim's home town, in Medicine Hat, Alberta (Canada). Medicine Hat has some beautiful paths along the river that are great for a run together. On this particularly blustery Friday the 13th, the thermometer read -14 C (7 F), but Matt was still up for a run. As they ran, Matt pointed in the distance and suggested our halfway point, a sign we could see in the distance. When we got there we didn't turn around immediately, I wanted to read what the sign was about. As Kim was reading about the history of the trail, she heard Matt say "Kim," - upon turning round, ask her to marry him. She had wondered how he would try to surprise her, and he definitely did! When Matt went to put the ring on Kim's finger, both their hands were too cold to coordinate anything with precision! So they finished their run, excited to get back to the car to complete the engagement! (And for the runners out there, it was definitely a negative split :) )
