Our New Last Name

We took intentional time to reflect on the often gendered practice of name taking that is common to marriage in the US. As a queer couple, we were presented with infinite possibilities of how we might approach engaging with this tradition. What a gift it was to share family trees, and memories of the beloveds connected to the various surnames in our families. As a result, we decided to take the maiden surname of Kim's maternal grandmother, Frances DeLorio. We hold deep gratitude to know about our ancestry and heritage, honoring that many communities in our country have had heritage and ancestry stripped from them in various ways. With this gratitude in the forefront, we hope to honor this connection to our past by brining the name DeLorio back into our community.
