We met in 2014 while searching for graduate schools, during a torrential downpour in La Jolla. At the same moment, we each fell in love with the idea of living in vibrant San Diego while looking upon the ocean from the beachside cliffs. After both enrolling at UCSD Bioengineering, we joined the same lab and began a close friendship. Our least productive days in the lab were when our desks were next to each other. The following spring, after watching Survivor (America’s greatest reality TV show) together, Kim decided anyone who would watch Survivor with her was a keeper, and asked Nick out. Over the subsequent 6+ years, we have had some incredible adventures – hiking Mt. Whitney, completing 2 PhDs, a California–Norway long distance relationship, and countless burritos. On January 25, 2019 we got engaged at sunset overlooking Oslofjord at Ekeberg Park, and we are so excited to spend the rest of our lives learning and laughing together.
