Our two kickball teams combined (shoutout Vavi) to form a new Sunday team and Matt proceeded to change into his new jersey and caught Kim's eye. After ignoring Kim's flirtatious comments for two seasons our good friend Marko stepped in. With a little coaching from Marko and Matt's 30th birthday pub crawl Matt asked Kim out on their first date and the rest is history.
From Kim: Not surprisingly Matty signed us up to participate in a weekend kickball tournament. I happily said "yes" when I found out the team was going to be full of all our friends. Let's just say Saturday morning started out rough (Matts work Christmas party was the night before) but the day quickly turned around as we started winning our games and made our way to the championship round. Unfortunately, we lost the championship game but that didn't matter because as our final pictures were being taken everyone got up and walked away ... so I did too, until I heard Matty say "sweetheart?" when I turned around he was on his knee and I can't tell you anything else because it was all just a blur of tears from there. From Matt: As a welcome break to the crazy world we had endured the past few years due to a pandemic, there was a kickball tournament / charity fundraiser announced from Volo's social media. Having been on the Covid train for about 2 years at this point, Matt thought it would be a great idea to bring the Sunday team back together for a fun tournament with a little twist on the end. We played very well with team mates converging on San Diego from the east coast, Washington and our local area and made it to the finals where we finished in 2nd place to a team full of national traveling players. With a successful tournament in the bag, the team wanted to take a picture. Matt stayed behind when everyone started to walk away only to be found on one knee with his hands holding a little black box with a ring in it by his beautiful fiancé, Kim. And the rest is history...
