We met online on Plenty of Fish in July 2018. It didn’t take either of us long to find each other. Shelbey says she messaged me because I referenced Harry Potter in my bio. Everything in her profile lined up perfectly with everything I had ever wanted in a partner. We talked day and night after that.

We decided to meet for the first time in September. From the moment I saw Shelbey, I knew she was the one. She was late and our Dennys waiter took so long to bring the bill, we were late for the movie. Instead of going home, we decided to wait for a later time for “The House with a Clock in its Walls”. We spent over an hour talking and walking around the mall before going to the movie. Afterward, we both regretted not ending the night with a kiss.

Shelbey’s mom invited us, my mom, and my sister to a sunflower field event. (I didn’t know then, but Shelbey orchestrated the whole thing) About a month prior, I decided it’d be the perfect opportunity to propose and made preparations. At the sunflower field, we took pictures together and picked out sunflowers to take home. As we were looking for them, I was trying to find the right opportunity to do it. Before I could, shelbey went to ‘tie her shoe’ and pulled out the ring box. She proposed with a beautiful speech. I had had suspicions about it but to see it all happening, I was taken aback and forgot everything I had prepared to say. So I just pulled out my ring box. To say shelbey was shocked would be an understatement. We laughed and embraced and, of course, said yes.
