There are two main airport options! You can fly into Dublin, which offers more direct flights from the U.S., or into Shannon, which typically has one stop abroad (London). Shannon is a smaller, easy to navigate airport closer to Galway, making for a shorter onward journey. Both are great options, especially if you're planning to extend travel either before or after the wedding date!
There are four main options for transportation depending on your situation and we suggest researching each option based on your intended travel plans - 1) Trains in Ireland are clean, spacious and have wonderful views of the countryside. Find trains online at "Irish Rails" website. 2) Buses are also a great option for getting to smaller towns and are more flexible depending on your travel. We found that the "Busbud" app was helpful for longer distance bus trips. 3) Rental cars - if you are confident enough to drive on the opposite side of the road with narrow winding roads, this option offers the most freedom. 4) Uber/taxi - great options for within cities for distances you aren't comfortable walking!
The simplest option is taking the train, which is spacious, clean, and takes you through lovely countryside. Tickets are easy to find online at the "Irish Rails" website. However, if you're flying out of Dublin and want a direct route from Galway to the airport, we suggest taking a bus. Bus tickets are easy to navigate online as well.
There is a direct bus route via the 'Busbud' app from the Shannon airport to a stop just outside Galway. From there, you can grab a quick taxi/uber to the main hub of Galway
